watched a short vid on youtoob and the lady showed an letter, that Augason Farms is shutting down for 90 days due to a shortage of materials?
The letter was dated on the 7th of this month
I have been reading about this, too. Right now Amazon still has some Augason items but don't know how long that will be true. I've been meaning to order some dehydrated sliced potatoes but instead have been buying the individual boxes from the grocery store.

I wonder how much Halloween candy will cost this year compared to last year.

Dh likes Brach's Autumn Mix. I used to be able to buy it anywhere. Last year I had to make a special trip to Walgreen's to get it. (Yes my husband is spoiled) Last year it was $2 a bag. This year it was $3.79 a bag, unless you had a rewards card. And the bag is smaller.
The huge bags of Hershey's Halloween candy at Aldi don't appear to have been touched. They are like $8 a bag.
Mid South.

Just a heads up, our Krogers are going to have Progresso Soups on sale for 99 cents a can, select varieties, (regular price $1.79) starting tomorrow.

Not sure if it's a regional sale, or if it will be available in their 'sister' stores also. That's a heck of a good price for Progresso Soups, and it's the same sale price as last year. In our stores it included pretty much all of the Progresso varieties in the past.

Miami stores are getting hit hard; lines, police to prevent rioting, etc. Why? BC there are a lot of Russian, Cubans, and Venezuelans there. They can read the handwriting on the wall and are terrified.
Did you speak to any of these people?

Since 1999
I live in central Washington and yes it was a drought year and the wheat was not good.

By almost any conceivable measure, this summer's lengthy and extreme drought led to historic lows in the production and quality of the region's signature cash crop. ... In Washington, the projected crop year production this year is 87.1 million bushels of both spring and winter wheat, the lowest total since 1964.

Kind of scary...

Winter wheat around here is getting planted at a breakneck speed this year. As soon as the corn is out they are not waiting to put wheat back in. Last year they were slow and didn't get a lot of it done....not this year. I've seen wheat already 8" tall which is pretty much unheard of this early.

Information from another forum:

Saturday I stopped at the store to grab a couple things and the people in front of me in the checkout had bought ALL the pork that was on sale. Literally about $500 worth..and ironically I was looking for a package of chops - they were buy one, get one and there were only a few odds and ends left, not even enough to take advantage of the deal.

They had a cart and a half of just pork chops.

shocked

I just happened to be in town, but easy enough to get at the neighbors farm store instead so no big deal...but yeah, I think people are panic buying.

Instead of just seeing limits on TP and PT, we may begin to see limits on everything! Food rationing just to keep things like this from happening?

There were limits on most things last year. There is a mint oil that I like to use in the bathroom and it was limited to one. DH and I would buy one each. I've expanded my bathroom cleaning to also use Fabuloso. It works well and a dollar a bottle, still, at DT.

The only things I ever saw a limit on here was TP and PT. I'm seeing this again at Sam's in my locale.

I'm not a farmer by vocation, but have spent many days over the years picking up extra money by running combines, planting rigs, hauling grain to the elevators, and doing fall field work.

One thing I have learned is that for the last 2 decades, every piece of machinery involved in the planting, harvesting, transportation process are highly dependent on availability of repair parts, electronics(circuit boards), lubricants, tires, etc. And, in order for planting and harvesting to be done at the right times, these things need to be at or very near your fingertips. Or, the whole dance of crop production goes to shit = no food.

I know that an underlying issue with this impending strike are the Covid mandates, even if it doesn't make the news. Let's just say my uncle works for Deere. And, the same issue is set to arise at most, if not all, of the other manufacturers of modern farm equipment.

Shortages of truckers, store employees, etc. pale in comparison to what will happen if we can't keep the machinery in the fields that produce it all.

Google search: SHORTAGE news past 24hs results....

Thread: CNN on Supply Chain Crisis: Consumers Can’t Expect to Shop Like Pre-Pandemic ‘Before Times’
10/12/2021 CNN reported Costco and Sam’s Club and other grocery outlets will once again limit customer purchases.

The shortage is not down to a lack of goods – they exist, but backlogs at shipping yards and rail yards across the country combined with a lack of workers means the items aren’t being offloaded quickly enough and distributed across stores.

Freight trains are also backed up at yards in hubs like Chicago and there is a shortage of truckers able to drive goods across the country.

Alex City Schools warns of food shortage due to supply-chain breakdown

The school district made the request after warning parents they may be short on breakfast food in the coming weeks, due to the vendor, Southern Foodservice, being "short on supplies, drivers and even warehouse employees," according to a Facebook post Saturday.

The issue is both state- and nationwide. Last month, the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) said food supply shortages were affecting every public-school district in Alabama

In addition to the paper product limits, our Sams had limit three on bottled water. limit one each on cases of canned veggies/fruit/chili/beans. That is all pretty standard at our Sams. Other limits on things would come and go according to the availability. Central Florida

Seems like I do remember there being a limit also on bottled water back then. No limits on anything else, though, besides the TP and PT. NE MS Sam's. In our part of MS, shortages and limits aren't as bad as in other parts of the country. Our Sam's is fully stocked as is our Walmart. At least for now.

this is why there needs to be limits, unless they have proof that the purchase was for business purposes this is just insane!

After being wiped out of some products last year, most grocery stores in my area have signs along the lines of: Management Reserves the Right to Limit Quantities of Popular Items

Which means that 3 - 4 of the item is fine but filling up a shopping cart with it is a no-no.

Worth repeating: find out when the trucks generally come in and arrange to be there after they are unloaded. For me, that's first thing on Thursday morning if I'm shopping for hard to find items. A lot of the trucks arrive on Wednesday afternoons.

Good advice. Also be aware that the delivery days of some stores have shifted or changed in the time since the pandemic started from what they were pre-pandemic. If your intel is old, might want to refresh it.

That's always been the policy if the smaller (than WalMart) grocery stores... they didn't necessarily have a hard limit (although on really good loss leaders, they usually have a limit if 2) but they wouldn't let you buy all the pork or whatever.

Yep, and Fareway and HyVee here in town both have huge signs above the meat counter telling people if they need large amounts they can place an order and they'll even cut them a deal on pricing! NOTE there are a lot of families here in town that have ten or more children (full quiver believers).

And Thursday is truck day at the speciality stores. I always go to the Thai grocery store on Friday to stock up on fresh bok choy, ginger, etc.

At our local supermarket back home, they would have great sales on whole, boneless pork loins. And, they'd cut them to order for free. So, I'd call early in the week and order 6 or 8 whole loins (50-70#) I'd have one or two cut into small roasts (empty nest... don't need an 8# roast for dinner anymore!) and the rest into 1" thick chops. I'd usually cut up 20-30ď of the chops and make stew, which I canned. At 99 cents a pound, it was hard to beat!

We try to take advantage of those deals as well. OC scored a ten pound tube of ground beef late Saturday evening for $2.49 a pound. I asked him why he didn't buy two of them, that's the limit, 2.
