The source is Natural News (), but in this case, I give the story credence. Have been waiting to see such announcements. The prep food industry is going to see supply and labor problems just like everybody else.
This "story" originates from Mike Adams (The Rump Ranger) and cannot be independently confirmed by either Augason's website or their Facebook page. The only suspension they mention is a moratorium on processing online orders through their website while still servicing their wholesale customers. This is Adams' moneymaking scheme in full operation yet again. He takes a legitimate story, tweaks it to sensationalize it, and then sells it through his numerous outlets. He also sells long-term storage foods and would love you be be spooked into buying his overpriced shit! He's the asshole King of Clickbait!

HERE'S THE NOTICE (aka The Truth) FROM AUGASON'S WEBSITE:
"Due to an extremely high order volume through all sales channels we are currently not able to receive any orders through our web site. All orders previously placed will still be shipped. Augason Farms Products are still available through other national sales channels both on line and in-store and also through other reputable on-line vendors. We expect to turn this site back on just as soon as possible. As a manufacturer we are intent on making sure our vendors inventory is top priority. Thank-you for choosing Augason Farms."

Ok. I just went to Augason Farm's website, and nothing is said about them closing for 90 days. I did see where they have dehydrated bell peppers back in stock. For a #10 can, $50.99! Surely, that can't be right! Also, a 5 to 9 week delivery date.

I don't know how authentic this is, but this was posted in one of my groups on Facebook.

I recently purchased two 30 Lb propane tanks from Walmart.com for $133 total with tax/free ship. Yesterday I went to Ferrellgas, and the fellow there said: (a) propane would soon be $4/gallon, and (b) he was amazed that I was able to get the tanks and so cheaply -- they had not been able to get any since March.

I guess the reason I didn't see the notice at Augason Farm is, because I didn't look in the right place, and didn't try to place an order.

Bought bacon yesterday for the fist time in 6 weeks. Same brand and package weight as you described: $11 (!) That’s up from the same price you paid when I bought 6 weeks ago.

That was the sale price. Normally $11.99. Kroger 1 pound used to be $4.49, then $4.99, now $5.49. But I have 7 pounds in the freezer. Was buying only what I used to replace but I think I'll get a few more next trip. Can't go without bacon!!

i just got in under the wire it seems. i ordered carrots, green peppers, and celery from them and just got it.

I'm also glad I ordered 4 bags of dried whole eggs, and dried whole milk from another company because I think they're going to become unavaiIable or prohibitably expensive.
I got two of the 4lb tubs of Bacon grease from walmart too.
I'm drawing down my savings and hope to keep enough to bury me left in it.

I've never noticed anything special about Wright's bacon..but for the past 10 years or so have been getting the hand-smoked stuff from the local butcher shop for 3.99 or lately, 4.99/lb. so am out of the loop quality-wise on brand-name stuff.

Here, the store on the Rez sells Wright's (from ad for next week): Ends and pieces: 2.97/bag (.99/lb.) for a 3 lb. bag, or the thin cut sliced: 3.99/lb in a 20 Lb. box (79.80/box).

I did a run this morning. Dollar Tree was pretty well stocked overall but didn't have the one snack food that I went for - Onyums. Darn it!

At Kroger I had a list and a list for a friend who had surgery last week. I got everything on both of our lists and didn't notice any screaming price increases or empty shelves anywhere.

My last stop was at the Starbucks kiosk at Safeway. I'm always surprised that the price of my one extravagance hasn't gone up.

I went and did my bi-weekly shopping at Meijer this morning, and at first glance it was decently stocked but there were noticeable gaps. They were completely out of ricotta cheese. So much for making a lasagna this weekend. There were empty shelves in the paper plates aisle and in the noodle/pasta section. The cream cheese was looking very thin and there were only Meijer brand saltine crackers. Several sections only had one row of stock, no back stock. Prices are still on the rise. A jar of regular Jif peanut butter was $6.39! And my hubby asked for Doritos. The bag was so small. I can’t believe what passes for a family-size bag of chips these days.

I went shopping early this morning and got a few things at my tiny-town Harp's grocery store. There seemed to be fairly decent stock on everything, although I don't think any of the shelves were stocked deep. They've been out of the Gerber baby meat turkey for a month now. and today, the beef was also missing. Fancy Feast canned cat food well-stocked for a change, but not all the common flavors.

What really surprised me was that one of their floor freezers had a section fill with turkey. I got two enormous Honeysuckle turkey breasts. There were six of those and I think four good sized whole turkeys in that freezer. Also lots of smaller Butterball turkey items and a fair amount of another brand that I didn't recognize. The meat I bought was well over two dollars a pound but I didn't care, I went ahead and bought them anyway because I'll bet anything that there won't be any more of what I wanted at this store and there is no way I'm going all the way to Walmart. Nowadays, I wouldn't shop at Walmart if it was adjacent to my own yard. (Shudder!)

Since there isn't even room in my freezers for an extra ice cube tray, I put the turkey breasts in some spare styrofoam coolers and once they start to thaw, I will cut them apart and cook them in a couple of my large crockpots. Hopefully I can save this job for a colder day, as those crockpots warm up a room very nicely when I'm too cheap to turn on the space heater!

When I grocery shopped earlier this week I spent all except $11 of my monthly grocery budget. The only out of the ordinary item was Crisco for $5.59 and only meat was a whole chicken and #1 of ground beef. I didn't buy any cleaning or paper products just food. Living on SS doesn't leave me any wiggle room to cover all the increases coming my way so its going to be back my poverty years cooking regime and making do or doing without. At least I know how to do those things and wonder how those that don't will manage. Guess its pantry time this month!!

I go to the bi-monthly mobile food pantry. We get no choice on what we receive and some of the stuff I've never used before such as quarts of frozen eggs. Today I made rice raisin pudding using dried milk, eggs, rice and raisins from the pantry box. Only other ingredients were sugar, salt and cinnamon. This will be dessert for a week cost 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon and 1/8 tsp. salt so basically free. Now that the weather is cooler I need to start cooking more from scratch using those free ingredients along with my home canned produce. I have a lot of old cookbooks so I should be able to find plenty of recipes. Need to get a vegetarian cookbook to get better recipes for lentils.

anna43, if you can go safely, I have found huge markdowns on near-date meat and bakery items by being first when the store opens.

I just got back from the local 99 cents only store here in Norcal. There were several shelves with drinks and such lined up very nicely...one layer deep with nothing behind them. Also, I asked about produce since there was an entire large display unit totally bare and the other one was maybe 1/4 filled. The clerk said the truck hadn't arrived yet.
The store was in decent shape over all and there were employees filling shelves here and there. I got the impression they were filling the shelves as soon as the product was off the truck.
I did see 4 oz Godiva unsweetened baking chocolate on sale for $1.99. Since I had run out I was happy to see this but when I checked the expiration date (which I had to scrape a sticker off with my fingernail to read) it said May 2021. Having been in retail I can tell you, you aren't supposed to sell out of code product...at all!
A good shopping trip all things considered, but I would continue to stock up for the coming winter my friends. It's getting dicey!

With the severe shortages that are coming, I wonder how long the food banks and government commodities are going to last? It seems shortages would eventually show up there, too. My mom gets 3 large boxes of food from government commodities every month. She depends on them to make her SS last all month.

Kroger today, central Indiana.
Same holes that have been there for two weeks aregetting bigger.
Spices
Granola bars
Meat! Not a good selection except for a LOT a hamburger in the cooler and everything was $$

Even chicken was picked over. But Tyson has a BOGO sale. The packs are small though.

Coffee looked kind of sad.
Frozen veg was picked over, just like during peak lockdown

Toilet paper was very low.

I bought things I normally wouldn’t have but got a little panicked....then got hold of myself lol.

Has anyone seen a frozen turkey in a grocery store yet? Aldis used to keep them year round.
We saw a few at HEB over the last few weeks. Some Honeysuckle brand, one Riverside, and I think one or two Butterball. None are there long. Didn't see any this week, but I did see fresh pigs feet and beef marrow bones. That was interesting.

I've been buying this "Happy" brand of peanut butter on Amazon. It's pretty good and $3.99/ 40 oz. Jif is crazy expensive

This morning my little store had frozen turkeys and turkey breast in a small floor cooler. I go to that store ar 6 AM and the guy who works the meat dept gets there at 9 AM so I never see him to ask things like is there more of anything in the back of his department. And there are no longer enough other people working there when I'm there to go back and check for me.

As I said somewhere else here, I bought what I did even though they were expensive, because it's very possible that this little store won't get another batch of turkeys this year. They barely had a few tiny overpriced Butterball turkey breasts last year around mid November or so.

Stopped in at a southwest Oregon Albertson's hoping to pick up a ribeye or two. Not for $27 a pound. It's been probably 6-8 months since I purchased ribeye, and I remember paying half or less of the current price. Looks like I'm having eggs for dinner. Thankfully our hens are producing well right now!

I bought my turkey at WM last week. The store I shop usually has a free standing freezer full of turkeys all year. It had 4 in it. I figure this may be the last year we have the option of having turkey. We haven't had one in probably 5 or 6 years, we usually eat roast or ham. Last year dh didn't want to cook so we had Aldi's take and bake pizza and that was perfectly fine.
I haven't seen any candy corn or Autumn Mix either, but last year I did have to make a special trip to Walgreen's to get some.

I just got home from my weekly shopping. I got zero meat.

First was Walmart. What I did get was the stuff I worry I won't be able to find when I need it. I always make au gratin potatoes with bacon and extra cheese for a side on Christmas dinner. It's my brothers favorite. Well they only had three double boxes of it. I got two of them. I got paper plates and bowls, they were almost wiped out. I got detergent (I only use free & clear), propane tanks (gone up a dollar to almost $9 for a two pack of the 1 lb. ones). Those were well stocked. Halloween candy (when did it become a $24.88 per large bag item?). I got a couple of the smaller $4.88 bags, we don't get many kids out here. One small block of cheese was almost $4. A small Folgers Columbian was an even $4. One 4 pack of scott tp was $4. Everything was up a buck it seems. I spent a $118. I did get washer fluid for the cars, up here you simply cannot not have that, so I put three in the garage.

Then I went to a small Mennonite store (we have a lot of Mennonite up here). They have individual bags of stuff which I love to get. I got 4 flavors of Jello, 2 puddings, some sugar cookie mix, some gingerbread mix, pie crust mix, a jar of seedless black raspberry jam, assorted other goodies. I then got some ham and turkey lunchmeat. It all came to came to $65.

At a third place for paper towels, more tp (yeah I know, it's an obsession). Some cookies and milk, ice. Spent $40.

And finished up at the Dollar Tree and spent another $7.

So, $230 total, and no meat other than 3/4 lb. of lunchmeat. Yikes.

I bought one lb of Wrights early summer on a great sale so will save that for Christmas morning. It was 6.99$ on sale. But I’ve heard so much now I wish I’d bought more during the sale!

Not now. It’s out of my price range. I hope it’s delicious!

As i have been utilizing the local mobile food pantries this last year myself, I have been intensely watching the system for some time, with this in mind.

They had my primary mobile pantry just this morning. This is my primary because I have found over time that they seem to give each family more - with more variety and sometimes greater quality - than other mobile pantries in this area give. I always get out very early, to make sure they don’t run out of anything before they service my car.

What I can tell you is that - until today - this site has always managed to give out two - or many times three - different types of meat to each family.

For example, last month, they gave each family 16 boneless, sliced, vacuum packed pork chops. Plus 2 packages (1 pound per package) of ground turkey. Plus one (5 pound) bag of frozen chicken leg quarters. They gave us fresh salad makings last month, too, plus breakfast cereal, and bakery desserts that were a few days past their “sell by” date, but still good to eat.

But this month was different. The only meat we got was two (5 pound) frozen chicken leg quarters.

We got a gallon of fresh milk. They always give us a gallon of fresh milk. Today was no exception.

There was no fresh greens, though. No salad makings. No canned goods.

No breakfast cereal. (We have a Kellogg’s plant in this town, and they are generous donors of cereal to the local food bank. With Kellogg’s workers on strike, I was not surprised when we were given no cereal this month.)

We did get bags of dried split peas - two 2 pound bags. The food bank has been giving out bags of dried split peas for months on end - I think they own the monopoly on those things. We usually get anywhere from 3 to 5 bags of those 2 pound bags at just about every mobile pantry event. But today, we only got two of those 2 pound bags.

One new item they have never given us before was raisins. We were given 5 packages that had 6 individual sized boxes of raisins in them. We usually get some kind of past due date bakery goodie (like a pie or a coffee cake or some deli cookies) but not today. They gave us a cheap loaf of that “certified” white bread instead.

The overall volume of food we got was lighter, compared to what we have gotten in previous months. And there wasn’t much variety there, like there has been in past months.

If you know what you are looking for, you can see that they are beginning to cut back. This is the first time I have seen noticible cutbacks this year.

But the cut backs are not deep this month, IMHO. I came away with enough food to justify the four hours I burn to get food from this pantry. And I am grateful for what I was given.

They only have this mobile pantry event once a month, so it will be interesting to see what they are able to offer us next month.

First of all, YIKES! $27 a pound? Yee gaawwds! Second, I LOVE a nice omelet. I usually add ham or bacon, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, and sometimes diced green onions. Sometimes with O’Brien potatoes on the side. Yummy dinner!

ETA: If I happen to have some in the fridge, I’ll put some salsa on top of the omelette.

Neither here nor there.
Central Iowa. alrighty I finally made it to the WM on the south side of town today and HOLY COW talk about holes! The fresh produce was hit and hard, as in barely any fresh produce other than pumpkins, apples and pears. I did find two bags of parsnips and two of turnips, no rutabegas what they had on the shelf looked to be half rotten. Other than that, nada. Canned goods section decimated. Pasta, non existent. Did get one bag of split green peas though and a can of Glory's Seasoned Cabbage to try.

The women's clothing section at WM has shrunk in size by about 60%, didn't see a men's section.

Aldi is having issues with it's produce. Otherwise very few holes.

Sam's Club, pretty well stocked considering that they are rearranging their store to put in a new on site bakery.

Fareway, no holes 80% ground beef in the ten pound tube was $2.49 a pound.
