The title bout says it all.

I'm bored with my own cooking....

I really need some new rice recipes.

Even a few pinto bean recipes too.

I tried to do a search......but.....I got way to many hits that had nothing to do with recipies :(

Hi, FireStarted!

I looked up this recipe that is a family favorite. I don't remember where I got it, but they all like it.

Take 1 lb ground beef, brown it and drain.
Add 3-1/3 cups hot water
2-1/2 cups instant rice (I use the brown instant)
2 Tablespoons minced onion (can use dried)
1/4 cup soy sauce
Mix well, bring to boiling.
Cover and let cook over medium heat (or lower) for 10-15 minutes.

Don't lift the lid! When time is up, stir and enjoy!
No one around here likes rice by itself, but they all love this dish.

I might have some more recipes for you, but am pressed for time right now, and will look them up later.

Cassie

PS: If you think I have forgotten about the recipes, PM me. We have a lot going on next week. My memory isn't what it used to be.

FireStarted, I'm not big on rice recipes...I'm just not very creative with it. but one way we use it a lot is to saute' chicken breast pieces with onion (usually green for color), and sweet red peppers and garlic (yum!) if I have it...then spoon it over rice to serve.

the kids will eat rice with a little brown sugar sprinkled on it.

oh yeah, I like mexican rice too with beans, but don't have a recipe for it.

how do you use rice?

Firestarted, we put our chili on top of rice to eat it. You can also add grated chedder cheese and onions on top. The rice seems to tone down the chili and also makes it go a few more servings if you need it to.
There is a good dish that is included in the instructions that come with oven baking bags for a chicken and rice meal that you do right in the bag. No clean up. It is very good. I have made it a few times and my family that likes very few things liked it. I don't think that it has very many ingredients either. Glowy

Rice Recipes

Chicken Risotto

1 cup Jasmine rice or medium grain rice
I 5oz. can chicken (drained)
4 tsp chicken bullion powder
4 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons dried mushrooms, rehydrated
¼ cup minced onion (can be dehydrated)
1 tablespoon dried parsley
½ tablespoon dried celery leaves
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 cup chopped broccoli

Sauté onions in oil until opaque. Add rice and stir until grains are coated with butter. Add 1 tsp. Bullion powder to 1 cup boiling water (put the liquid drained off the chicken into the cup too) and add to rice. Add mushrooms, parsley, and celery leaves. Cook uncovered until most of water is gone then add more water and bullion powder 1 cup at a time until 4 cups are added. Stir as needed to keep rice from sticking. When the last of the broth is almost gone, stir in broccoli and diced chicken, turn off heat, and cover for 10 minutes.

Glorified Rice
More familiar among the Amish than traditional rice pudding, this variety called for a bought fruit that cast the whole dish into the category of a special treat. Cooks frequently planned for this dessert by making more rice as a vegetable than could be eaten at one meal

2 cups cooked rice
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup pineapple chunks, drained
1 cup whipping cream

Combine rice, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup pineapple chunks. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Just before serving, whip cream and fold into rice mixture.

6 servings

Get some oyster sauce. It makes the lousiest meal taste good to my crew. If you have that and your family will eat stir fry type meals you can use any meat & veggie combos and make so many things.

Ginger helps, too. Just fry garlic, onions, ginger together in olive oil and add what ever you want starting with meat chunks. Just cook meat thru and add your veggies. Throw in leftover chicken broth (from your last chicken dinner) to simmer for a minute. Then thicken with cornstarch & water mix. When it's almost done, add that oyster sauce - couple tbsps. & If you want, add a little soy sauce. The broth works well with all meat - even venison

Use what your crew likes and when they ask what it is, tell them it's a surprise. Works all the time here.:D :D :D
