Questions about "alternative" medicine/treatments

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Okay, now that I posted this in the H&H forum, I found this one that seems more appropriate, so I'm reposting here.

"Fuzzychick" told me that this type of question should be posted here. Thanks FC!

I'm reading a book called "Natural Cures," and doing a lot of internet searching. A lot of what I'm reading makes sense to me, and there are some things I'd like to try. So I went to a couple of health food stores today (no big ones around here) and picked up a few things that were recommended in the book. But I really don't know what to do first, or the "dosages" of some of the stuff I bought. I was hoping someone could give me a little advice.

1. Mangosteen juice

2. Colloidal Silver

3. Coconut oil (raw, organic)

4. Apple Cidar Vinegar

5. Digestive Enzymes (this contains "porcine bile extract" - that sounds really nasty!

6. A "Super Colon Cleanse" made by Health Plus - this states that you should stop taking it if you have loose stools or diarrhea. I thought that was the whole purpose of a colon cleanse???? The book recommends colon cleanse, liver cleanse, kidney cleanse, candida cleanse, etc. I thought I'd start with the colon cleanse.

I also picked up some "natural" shampoo, toothpaste (no fluoride), deodorant, etc. Don't need any help trying to figure out how to use those ;-)

I have three main goals for pursuing "alternative" treatments:

1. Get off of my prescription meds (currently Flonase for allergies, Elavil for fibromyalgia, Coreg for heart palpitations - no heart disease, and maxide for fluid retention)

2. Lose weight

3. Feel better. I have pain all the time (fibromyalgia, plus some back injuries and surgery), I have no energy, I crave junk food and sweets, I have a lot of trouble sleeping and just generally don't feel like I think I should. I'm "only" 53, but I feel like I'm 80.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know what Mangosteen juice is. However, the rest of the stuff you can probably fine out on the net. I have heart palpitations sometimes also (it's a cycle thing) and I would be very careful about coming off that med. I did come off mine, but cranked it down slowly over time. Took CQ10 and taurine for that and it seems to have worked well. MOST of the time. I still have to take my med for about 2 days sometimes. Do research on this drug and see what they say about it and how to use it. It may not be very "up and down" friendly. If it's not, you could ask your doc to bring you off of it. I swear exercise controls this better than anything.

anyway, this is more of a bump than anything... Look at Mercola and Bragg for your dosages on some of these things. And I would be interested in knowing what Mangosteen juice is and how it works should you be so inclined. Thanks in advance!

Oh, if I were going to get off any of the meds I would first choose the water pill to stabilize your electrolytes. That's going to depend on just how much fluid you're holding. Also, try melatonin for sleep. If you can sleep, you'll feel better. I have been taking SOMETHING that is killing my sweet cravings. I'll see if I can't figure out what it is. It's GREAT! Get some Natural Calm and add that to your diet. Google will take you there.
