I know there are quite a few people here that wanted to pick up some more of the Ground Beef (28oz) from Keystone Beef, but it has been completely gone from stores and thier website for quite a while, and only 3rd party sellers have been selling it online for extremely high prices.

I've been looking for some for a friend that needs some, so I've checked thier website every few days for them.
Noticed it was back in stock today!

The 28oz can is $103 for 12 cans + shipping.
Two cases (24 cans), is $206 + $55 shipping, is $10.88 per can.

This is the link. I have never bought directly of thier website, so as always buyer beware.

We've got a good stock of cases of assorted Keystone meats. Panicked early, and beat the rising prices, LOL! They are out of our budget range now, though, to buy by the case. I'm glad we ordered early. If our local Walmart carried it, I would still buy a can here and there, to continue to add to our stock, but they don't.

I'm all set. My bargain-priced case of Turkey SPAM from Amazon just showed up in the mail.

But really...Keystone is good. As good as Werling and Yoder. I like the smaller 14.5 oz cans, because a pound of meat is usually one recipe or one meal for 4-5 people. If electricity/fridge is a problem, unless it's cool /cold season outside, I don't want a half can of expensive meat needing to be held over.

They did have the beef on the website in 14.5's at $132 for 24 cans and about 24.00 shipping. OK I guess if you haven't set anything aside yet, cuz anything decent is going to cost ya at this stage.
Procrastinator's tax, doncha know..

I cannot afford them.

Walmart website has the Keystone 28 oz. canned beef for $9.98 ea. If you order over $35.00, they ship free.

Frankly, cost/benefit, it's seems to me almost a toss-up whether canning even "sale" beef you buy in the store today is any cheaper than that. I figure those 28oz cans hold about 2lbs of meat (before processing).

Not counting the time and electricity to can it, I'm getting 1 lb/ 1 pint of home canned ground beef for about $3.38/lb.

Yup..ground beef would be a bit different than regular beef, Haha...and why the cans of Keystone ground beef sell out so fast! Cheaper. OTOH, if you are canning boneless roasts, comparable to the cans of Keystone "beef" (not ground) , it would be more for the raw product.

35c an oz for the beef. Not awful.

I have been putting up Criders beef and pork. It's not the best quality, but I don't think we will be complaining too much when the shtf. I've made tacos and chili with them in recent past. The menfolk at them. That's what matters.

Just for giggles and grins I attempted to order 2 cases. My shipping (ground-only to AK) would be $168.60 as opposed to $55 that phylodius sees. ~ Ah, the many blessings of life in the 49th state. Okay, I really need to get that moose and can my own :)

I get those in commodities and have been stacking them up. I've made spaghetti with the beef twice, DH did not notice a difference the first time and the second time I let the cat out of the bag and he said it tasted off. Good grief just eat the spaghetti and shut up. He's not overly fond of my cooking, I cook nothing like his first wife did and will not try, its unhealthy.

Last two times I bought ground beef it was Organic Grass Fed. 4 patties for 6.28. The meat tasted fine, but seemed tough. We are still eating on the last few seasons of ground venison.

Cook it lower and slower and add lots of butter.

It was in the first post, but the home website for Keystone Meats is: Keystone Meats

All of the canned meat showed current stock. They have recipes, soup bases, and broths as well.
I placed an order for 14.5 oz cans of pork and turkey (in cases of 24 cans).
Shipping to OK was $24 per case (of 24 cans). It didn't matter if ordering 1, 2, or 3 cases.
UPS ground was the only option listed. No sales tax was collected.

Wow. By the time you purchased enough to feed a family for any length of time you could afford a freeze dryer or a canning set up and you could do lots of stuff.

But you would still have to buy the beef. Yes, this is about one and a half times the cost of today's beef, but I have a feeling it's going to be cheaper than the cost of beef in another four to six months.

Yes, six dozen cans is a lot of money, but figure you can stay alive on mostly carbs (rice, potato flakes, oatmeal, etc) and use peanut butter and other less expensive proteins two out of three days, and canned meat the other day, that will feed you and your family for around seven months. If either the world hasn't fixed itself or you haven't figured out how to survive without JIT grocery stores by then, that would indeed be a problem.

More than that if you work out the sales. On the other hand I do understand that time is money. So you need to add in the cost of your time.

I still wouldn't spend this kind of money on a commercially canned meat product. I can, dehydrate, and now freeze dry whatever I need because there is less of a mess when getting it into normal food cycles.

I store what I eat and eat what I store. I do have LTS (Long term storage) foods but again, they aren't canned but are freeze dried and then pkg'd to last up to 20 years or so without loss of flavor. I have concerns over meat that is commercially canned for this reason. What are their Best By dates?

The other day I bought NY strip steaks for $4.99/lb at Sav-a-Lot. Yesterday I got Ribeye Steaks for $7.99/lb. I've already freeze dried several servings and pkg'd them for long term storage. For me it is a strategy that works. May not work for everyone which is why the cans could do well. Different strokes for different folks. That's just a lot of money for ground beef.

The advertised date for keystone is 5 years after canning. The meat is canned raw and steam cooked in the sealed can. The beef, pork, and turkey chunks are small, roast-like pieces.

Steaks here start at around $15 a pound and go up to more than $20 a pound. Ground beef is usually six something a pound. We have some frozen, but we also have some in the cans for longer term storage. I figure we'll have enough gas for a week or maybe two weeks of generator power in a true SHTF scenario, so we'll need to eat all the frozen foods first and then start on the other storage.

I'm also thinking the canned meats may be what we eat next year when the grocery stores either don't have any, or are charging twice (or more) what they are charging now.

Are the meats you're buying out of date, or maybe right on the final day? Our prices are so far above and beyond those, it's crazy.

Nope, they are just "on sale" at this store called Sav-a-Lot. Not sure if it is only Florida but don't think so. It is a discount type of grocery store so you need to compare prices. For every great price I find there is another item that I can do better at another store, or at least the same price but different brand.

We have a few Sav-a-Lots here in Tampa but we also have one in the nearest small town to our BOL. The one near our BOL tends to have better meat prices but not always. The one nearest me around here will sometimes have pineapples a buck each. Different regions have different sales. I shop flyers and have several different options. I don't shop Aldi's like I did years ago simply due to the fact that they had "limits" on items for so long I simply found a way to shop around them and get deals that are at least as good as they once had. I get some of my meat from Gordon Food Stores by watching when they have bulk packages on sale. Bravo and Sav-a-Lots have been good to me for the last few months. I shop the loss leaders at Winn Dixie more than I shop at Walmart lately.

I just sales shop and I'm fine with that because I do my grocery runs while I'm doing other errands and keep a cooler in the back of my car for this purpose. Everyone shops differently.
