Workamping Prep For OTR Truckers

My wife & I are about to go back to OTR trucking and with things as unstable as they are, I'm brainstorming ideas for gear and preps to carry in the semi. Some things are going to conflict with certain laws and company policy, but if tshtf while we are 1000mi from home, I don't wan tot be a helpless refugee.
Weapons: I'm looking at buying a Ruger 22/45 or Walther P22. If I take our Remington 597, it will be in a electric guitar gig-bag with backpack straps. That's iffy. Hiding a small pistol is one thing, but a rifle is iffy. Non-firearms will include an Asp and knives.

I don't know if the engine electronics will survive EMP, so I'm assuming we will be afoot in that scenario. That's my worst fear: being afoot 500-1000mi from home...

This too shall pass.
Aside from weapons, it seems like your most important preps would be very good-quality shoes and hiking socks, plus a good water filter. Compass and maps, too.

Will you be pulling a box trailer or heavy haul?

If heavy haul, your escorts could carry things for you if you could trust them.

Think about a couple of Enduro dirt bikes mounted on the headache rack or something.

And of course your standard BOB, complete with KaBar or Gerber LMFII.

It is such a shame that TPTB think they have the right to take away your God Given Right to Defend Yourself from high jacking thugs.

I would pack some decent sleeping bags, a tarp for a makeshift tent, potable water and a filter or other purification system, some camping type food, flashlight, lighter, aspirin, babywipes, compass and maps, and instead of a rifle, a pistol grip shotgun. It is much more easily concealed, and will have the sort of knockdown power you want for anyone who gets up in your face.
Carry extra cash, and while the dirt bikes would be ideal, if you can't swing those, how bout some mountain bikes?
And a portable radio, of course.
If TSHTF and you are "stuck" away from home, you can take to the woods/back roads to get home.

The only problem with a shotgun and long distanc hauling is there is a lot of open space between towns. If there is someone out there who is reaching out and touching drivers with a sniper type rifle, you want to be able to get out of range hopefully and if still in the area, take him out without getting too close. Cannot do this with a shotgun. But a mossy 500 is a nice piece. Hard on the hand but nice.

For in town, a 16inch AR15 is nearly as concealable as a mossy 500, and can get on out there a ways for the distance aspect. Plus the ammo is way lighter and you can carry a lot more of it.

Points for the ammo statement. I wasn't thinking about snipers, just having to deal with gov roadblocks/curfews, or any other "official" impediment to driving the truck home. If I had to sneak back home over a distance, I would take to the woods with what I could reasonably carry, and the shotgun would take care of anything I might chance upon in the woods, with the versatility of being able to use slugs or shot, depending on whether I was hunting critters or taking out trash.
