Help Pregnancy and the flu shot

My 18 yo dd is pregnant, due in Dec and her doctor is pushing us to get the flu shot.
DD has been fighting mono/strep/tonsillitis/laryngitis for a few years, every time we get her healthy, she wants to go back to public school and gets sick again. I am concerned about overloading her immune system with the flu shot, but also don't want her or the grandbaby to get sick or die (doc specifically mention H1N1).

It's time to start her on elderberry extract, I am having her drink 1000mg of emergen-C, and take 1000 mg Vit D. I finally convinced her to do online schooling so that will reduce her exposure rate.

Any other suggestions, ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I'll just tell you a little of what I do while pregnant (and while nursing - I've been either nursing or pregnant for 13 years now). I take vitamin C ( more than 1000 mg) and Vitamin D (in excess of 5000 IUs) while pregnant. I also consume raw garlic daily. I also take coconut oil, flax seed oil and cod liver oil. If you're in to this sort of thing, you might also want to get her to eat some bone broths. Maybe a cup daily for breakfast if she can stomach it. I would also recommend kefir - home made if you can do it.

Oh, and I never ever take the flu shot. Pregnant or not.

Best of luck!

^^ Some very good advice, especially the bone broth. The trick is to cook the bones on a very low temp. for a long time and add a little bit of vinegar to the bones, to leach out some of the calcium into the broth. Sally Fallon has an excellent book called "Nourishing Traditions" with lots of information about making broths and other cooking methods to make your food in the most nutritious ways.

I have a very worn out copy of NT. I learned a lot from that book. It really helped to break down my nutritional paradigms. While I disagree with Fallon's dogmatic approach to things and her over-emphasis on soaked grains and dairy (I think a lot of people simply can't stomach it), it is a worth trying to find a copy - even a used copy. You will learn a lot. The section on bone broths and fermentation is excellent. I eat a lot of liver but pretty much skipped the rest of the "organ meat" section. :)
