BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Birmingham firefighters in hazardous material protective gear have set up a command post after a passenger on-board a flight that arrived at the Shuttlesworth-International Airport showed "signs of symptoms of Ebola."

Assistant Chief Tim Love said they have no indication the passenger has the disease but after a man died of the disease after flying into Dallas, the fire department wants to take no chances.

"We want to get ahead of this after what happened in Texas so we can do everything we can to protect people," Love said.

All passengers and crew have been told to remain on the plane.

It was not clear where the flight originated from, but on public safety radio it was said to be from Istanbul.

Toni Herrera-Bast, spokeswoman for the airport, said she was aware of a medical emergency aboard a flight but said she had no additional information and referred questions to police and firefighters.

UAB spokesman Bob Shepard said the emergency department there has not been contacted.

That is a little disturbing considering the dead Brit/possible Ebola situation in Macedonia. They met/connected with someone; who, when, where and where were they going...

Istanbul is close enough to the Macedonia area for me to take notice. coincidences...don't like them

Is throwing up on a plane rare? Considering the airlines furnish those throwup bags to passengers, I would suspect this may be quite a common occurrence due to motion sickness?

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A staging area has been established and several Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service firefighters and hazardous materials units have been called to Gate C of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport after reports of sick person on United Airlines flight 4602.
A person aboard the plane is reportedly vomiting. Birmingham Airport Authority spokesperson Toni Bast says the incident is a medical emergency on an incoming flight.
Birmingham Fire Chief C.W. Mardis says the department responded to reports of a passenger that was “diaphoretic, nausea and vomiting.”
“We have been in touch with Dr. Mark Wilson with the Jefferson County Health Department. He ran a background check on the entire situation and the person in question and he determined that it was not a threat,” Mardis said.
The passenger will be taken to UAB Hospital as a precaution.

The Alabama Department of Public Health says the plane was coming from Atlanta. They say the passenger was traveling from Jordan and the issue is not believed to be related to Ebola.
The fire department tells WIAT 42 News the plane is carrying 40 people, including its crew members.

I'm confused.
One report said plane coming from Chicago, another says Atlanta.
Sounds like just a sick person.

Nothing to worry about .... Nothing to see .....
Move along.

Anything suspicious from Turkey or Jordan should be watched closely. It would be like the savages to send off a few human ebola bombs.

So he is traveling from Jordan. What could possibly be wrong with that picture. ISIS isn't in Jordan nor is it in Oklahoma.

They just showed a clip of the fire department, in full hazmat gear, taking him to UAB Hospital (University of Alabama Birmingham) for "further observations".

What happens when the passenger, an American with Ocare, is just air sick and the Hazmat team, the medical teams, etc go to collect from the poor air sick guy? I'm sure Ocare will fight tooth and nail not to pay. Going to be some bankrupt people and higher taxes for all.

I know, a rock and a hard place.

BIRMINGHAM, AL -
Jefferson County Health Department officials say a man who became ill on a flight from Chicago to Birmingham was taken to U.A.B. Hospital for observation. Officials say the passenger's illness is not Ebola-related.

They are taking all necessary precautions because the man's itinerary apparently originated on an international flight. However, officials say the man had no travel history of being in West Africa where there is an Ebola epidemic.

One passenger aboard the flight told Alabama's 13 News that she observed the man being sick and vomiting in Chicago's O'Hare Airport prior to the man boarding the Birmingham-bound flight.

There were 39 other passengers on the plane, which landed mid-afternoon at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Following the medical emergency, they were temporarily detained as a precautionary measure.

The medical emergency began when the passenger on United flight 4622 from Chicago to Birmingham became ill and started vomiting. Birmingham Fire, EMS and HAZMAT units responded to the medical emergency call at the airport about 3:00 p.m.

So, someone observed him vomiting while at the Chicago airport.
Was he screened at all in Chicago? Million dollar question.

So, someone observed him vomiting while at the Chicago airport.
Was he screened at all in Chicago? Million dollar question.

Listening to the radio on the way home last night, I heard one of the officials (not the fire chief) say that the man was from Turkey (Istanbul had been reported earlier) and that he had flown to Canada, then to Chicago and then to Birmingham. He threw up in the plane bathroom. (interesting he threw up in Chicago too, I wonder if he was sick in Canada or on the long trip to Canada from Turkey?)

While they are going to observe him at UAB, didn't mention for how long, they are not going to check him for Ebola because CDC (or CDC guidelines, I'm not sure which) said that since his travel history does not include an Ebola (West Africa) infected country there is no reason to.

I wish all sides would confer with other sides. While last I had read al-Baghdadi had said No on the Ebola, for now/then anyway, there have been lots of jihadis who thought they should do it anyway. (per stuff I saw on twitter/and jihad forum a month ago)

ISIS has said and been advising their people for over a month (probably longer) to make sure they travel from a "Western" country (I assume clean shaven or at least a nicely trimmed beard and hair) so as to not draw attention and to avoid being flagged as a possible terrorist.

I still have the dead Brit in Macedonia on my mind and I still think it is possible they are connected.

I have to go read the Macedonia thread again to see if any new info.

I will also keep my eye on Birmingham for the next month. When all turns out okay, then I will relax.
