Kerry Campaign Party Turns to Tears and Bitterness

Boston (CNSNews.com) - As President George Bush edged closer to the 270 electoral votes necessary to secure re-election, supporters of Democratic nominee John Kerry openly wept and consoled each other at the Election Night celebration in Boston's Copley Square.

Some Kerry supporters called Bush's platform "all lies" and heckled a group of College Republicans who were passing through the crowd.

A distraught woman confronted Democratic U.S. Rep. Harold Ford in the lobby of the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel and screamed, "Can you tell me why everybody made a mistake?" Ford responded, "Let me talk to the candidate before I make a comment. It's been a long day."

Another woman standing near Ford began to openly weep at the prospect of a Kerry loss.

Former California Democratic governor Gray Davis spoke briefly with Ford and then essentially conceded the election to Bush and looked ahead to 2008.

"We owe it to the people that we represent to reassess and try and fix what went wrong and come back with a winning coalition and strategy four years from now and try to figure out a way to win the country back," Davis said.

When CNSNews.com asked why he had confidently predicted a Kerry victory just a few hours earlier, Davis responded, "I, like many people saw the exit polls, which saw Kerry ahead in every battleground state."

"We believed they were a precursor of a great evening," a somber Davis explained.

While Davis said he was "very proud of the campaign Kerry ran," he did criticize the party's efforts in southern states.

"Part of [winning the White House] is certainly not writing off the South. It's too big a part of America just to concede to the other party and expect to win," Davis said.

Davis praised Bush's re-election campaign.

"The president has worked hard for his re-election since the moment he got to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue," Davis said. "He is surrounded by very smart people, they are very good practitioners of the art of politics," he added.

'It's all lies'

Meanwhile, outside Kerry's Copley Square rally, a contingent of College Republicans from Northeastern University marched through the sea of Kerry supporters and got heckled.

"You vote for Bush, you get what you deserve," shouted Kerry supporter Bob Bryant to the GOP contingent.

"Bush has put forward a platform that people tend to believe even though it's all lies. Bush is dishonest; he is not being honest with the American people," Bryant said.

Another man shouted to the Republicans "This is why the rest of the world calls us ignorant Americans. You obviously don't read the newspapers or you would not believe as you do."

A woman, unhappy the Republicans were there, screamed, "someone shut up those idiots.'

Brian Henchey, one of the College Republicans marching through the crowd told CNSNews.com that he had "never seen more sad and depressed faces in my life than what I have seen here in Copley Square tonight."

"I think our president is a strong man, he is a strong leader. He is what this country needs," said Megan, one of the GOP marchers.

Kerry supporters from Ireland weighed in on why they believe Bush will likely be re-elected.

"It clarifies the fact that American people aren't so smart. If I could, I would have voted for Kerry," said the woman.

Free speech only for some, eh? Some animals are more equal than others, aren't they. If they're reassessing, I'll offer them this: the bit with the goose hunting was a bit too obvious. Reminded me of Dukakis and the tank.

If the Democrats are listening, I can tell them very quickly why they lost, and why they will keep losing if they don't make some changes (and I know not all Democrats are like this, but unfortunately the majority are, or they wouldn't keep fielding such losers).

They have a deep-seated belief that they are the only intelligent people in the country. They are arrogant beyond belief, which added to their lack of morals and their belief that no one should have higher moral standards than they do, totally alienates the bulk of the population. I would take a good guess that there was a large percentage of Democrats who are decent people who held their noses and voted Democrat out of life-long party loyalty, but how long will such arrogant leadership be able to hold those people?

Yes, the Republican party has problems, too -- much too much connection with large corporations, for one. I'm registered with a third party now (Constitution Party), and I think over the next few years a lot more people will be turning to the 'third parties'. I'm curious to see how much influence that will have on the majors.

Everything you said could easily be a description of the Republican party, although they do trump them on the morality angle, but not entirely.

* Intelligence. This must be the source of all of the childish insults, broad brushing and the blind eye turned towards foul ups on the home team, including constitution shredding laws.

* Arrogance. Republicans are not only extremely arrogant, but unbelievably hypocritical

* Alientates the bulk of the population? The lead is currently 3.5 million votes. I would hardly refer to that as 'the bulk'. This nation, from all appearances, top to bottom over time, is split 50/50, so yes, they will continue to 'alienate the bulk of the nation' while holding onto half of the power, and we *will have* Hillary in '08. G.W. will guarantee that one.

* How many wore clothes pins while voting for Kerry? The same as did for Bush. They're the LOTE crowd (lesser of two evils), and they're not going *anywhere*.

Bush does not have a mandate. The nation is divided. They have practically the same stance on numerous issues, assuming you can tell where they stand at all.

Which arm would you cut off if you had to make a choice? Probably the one you use less, but it would still suck.

Skull and Bones won tonight and the People lost. God bless America.

Now, get your camos on, 'cause we're goin' to Iran.

I really hoped Kerry would win. Why did he loose?

I think the war was a big issue--and he really didn't hit the nail square. By criticizing the conduct of the war and the justification for the war--rather than the war itself--Kerry was essentially saying he'd continue the war but come up with a better reason for being there. If that is all he's got, why not stay with the guy a little higher on the learning curve?

That, and he came across as a snob.

If things hold like the do now, the dems need to run a more moderate-center canidate. Same holds true for the republicans. Quite frankly Bush was closer to the center thus won the election.

I didn't want to have to die to be a stepping-stone for Hillary.

Three and more days ago there were all kinds of posts about how Kerry was gonna win and this board beinf sooooo Repub oriented was going to be full of whining and gnashing of teeth.

Now that kerry lost, the first 15 posts in this sig are whining and gnashing teeth.
