I keep mine in the fridg and the freezer. Do I need to let them thaw up before opening the package? I've got a lot of things I need to get in jars that will need the oxy rather than vacuum sealing.

Nope. But make sure you get your jars all full, lids organized, etc, before you open the O2 absorbers.

Thanks, I do know about having everything ready before opening the o2 package.

I just took several pounds of beans and rice out of the freezer and after they thaw out I'm getting them packaged up. Mostly jars, but in the case of rice I might use some mylar too.

I opened a bag of O2 absorbers and put them in a plastic jar and they got hot, then found a glass jar. I used about a dozen in a big plastic type locking tote.

Will that heat cause a spontaneous fire?

It shouldnt... I think the max they get isn't much above 100 degrees F. They are the same as the hand warmers they sell to use inside mittens.

Summerthyme (I probably wouldn't store matches using them)
