Saw the dentist today (have to see a special one now due to all the radiation therapy and surgery), and yay - I need a root canal. He did mention a treatment using silver (not in place of the root canal, though), so I asked about rinsing with colloidal silver. He said it might turn my teeth black (not sure I really understood well, sounded more like either areas that have had fillings or have active decay would turn dark), but that it might be worth a try.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Moldy,
I had lichen planus since childhood that turned cancerous in 2021. About 35% of my tongue was removed (a replacement ‘flap’ was grafted into place from flesh on my forearm.) I received chemo therapy and radiation treatment. I lost most of my saliva glands, and 46 lymph nodes. I trust that you know that saliva aids in neutralizing acid within our mouths. Further, that the tooth enamel becomes very soft due to radiation and prone to decay, unless overt steps are taken regularly to arrest it.
I have had to have one tooth ground down to the gumline, as a result of several fractures in it to the root. (They cannot extract teeth as radiation destroyed most of the capillaries, and subsequent healing would be a major problem.). I have another tooth, in which the gum is separated from the tooth, which is prone to infection.
Due to grinding of my teeth during sleep, the bone in my jaw shrunk. As a result, I have a couple of teeth in which more root is showing than tooth.
I have not tried colloidal silver, but have kept that as a supplemental treatment, if necessary.
I was told by a nurse that if I did not comply with the recommended treatment, my teeth would be gone in about 6 months. I have seen xrays of a noncompliant person with nubs as the gumline for teeth.
FWIW…..these are the procedures that I follow (they are more than you paid for…..I submit them, because I know what you are up against, and perhaps they will help you.):
- Each time after eating, I wash my mouth out thoroughly with water. I drink 1 to 2 bottles of spring water and swish it around in the process. If I ate anything, highly acidic, I also wash my moth out with baking soda and water (1 teaspoon to 2 cups of water), as it takes a while to drink the above mentioned bottles of spring water.
- I then, do the following:
- Before going to bed, I use the ‘teeth trays’ designed by the oral oncologists and treat my teeth with Gel Kam for 10 minutes. https://www.amazon.com/GEL-KAM-Flou...=B00E4MOX7Q&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_2_i
- I sleep with a plastic dental guard at night to prevent further damage due to any grinding of my teeth while I sleep. My dentist has a specialty in problem cases such as me, and designed the dental guard.
Also, I avoid eating anything that would cause excessive pressure when biting or chewing to avoid further bone shrinkage. E.g. cured meats, nuts, etc.
Good luck!
