Williams President-elect Barack Obama asked Americans at his first press conference to end partisan bickering and "politics," but he used his forum to take a swipe at former First Lady Nancy Reagan. The not-so-kind comment was made after Obama was asked how he was preparing for the job of president. "Have you spoken to any living ex-presidents," one reporter asked. "I was wondering what books you might be reading, everyone wants to know what kind of dog are you going to buy for your girls, and have you decided on a private or public school for your daughters?” Obama responded: “Hey, I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances …" The remark garnered a laugh from the press, though the statement was not true. In fact, it was First Lady Hillary Clinton who admitted to having at least one séance in the White House residence in which she and a small circle of friends summoned the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt. Nancy Reagan had consulted an astrologist during her White House years. Mrs. Reagan said she did so after her husband had almost been fatally shot in 1981. She said she feared for his life and thought the astrological information might help protect him. Mrs. Reagan has not responded to Obama's swipe. The former first Lady was hospitalized last month after suffering from a fractured pelvis.

Sorry, but you're wrong on this one.

Ron and Nancy Reagan had an astrologer with whom they consulted regularly, including on issues of state. She published a book about her experiences and it caused a firestorm because of Ron's religious base.

Actually FL, it was Hillary who had the seances. Nancy Reagan did consult with astrologers, especially after the attempt on her husband's life, but was never known to conduct a seance.

Hillary, according to biographer Professor Paul Kengor, would "channel" the spirit of Eleanor Roosevelt.

Biography Reveals Hillary Clinton Séance, Religious Devotion to Abortion
Participated in strange moments of imaginary conversation with deceased Eleanor Roosevelt from solarium atop White House

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/sep/07092405.html

"...A new biography on Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton reveals that during her time as First Lady, Clinton participated in strange moments of imaginary conversation with a deceased Eleanor Roosevelt from the solarium atop the White House. Grove City College professor Paul Kengor’s “God and Hillary Clinton” also notes the religious devotion with which Senator Clinton advocates abortion.

An overview of the book by Kengor’s Grove City colleague Dr. Warren Thockmorton notes that the book - with information from friends, colleagues and acquaintances - paints an accurate picture of Clinton’s version of faith.

The woman who arranged the séance-type sessions atop the White House, Jean Houston, became very close to the Senator. Houston who was known for delving into altered consciousness, the spirit world, and psychic experiences, according to a source quoted in the book, compared Clinton to Joan of Arc and believed her to be the most pivotal woman in all of human history..."

Hillary never denied or confirmed this, but White House staff members also said the same thing.

Obama just made a phone call this evening to Nancy Reagan to apologize for his statement.

No teleprompter=foot in mouth...

Well, if somebody in the WH has strange psychic experiences, it won't be the first time. I think even Lincoln has been spotted prowling the hallways by people who supposedly were sober at the time.

So if Hillary talkng to 'somebody' would not surprise me a bit.

I think Obama's 15 minutes on Sat. Night Live just made him want to get one more laugh from the audience before the reality show kicks in.

Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for 'careless' joke

President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan this afternoon to apologize for a joke about her having held "séances" in the White House, an Obama aide said.

“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference," said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. "The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation."

Obama was asked at his press conference today if he'd spoken to all the "living" presidents.

"I have spoken to all of them who are living," he responded. "I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances."

He was apparently confusing stories about Reagan's consulting with an astrologer with those about other First Ladies -- from Mary Todd Lincoln to Hillary Clinton -- who tried to make contact with figures from the past.

Grantbo, I didn't vote for him, and I don't have very good feelings about him, but the comment he made today does not make him an imbecile. You are jumping too hard. He was simply making a feeble joke. Said he had talked to (and noted the names of) living presidents. Then he joked that he hadn't talked to any of the dead ones, like Nancy Regan (gunnersmom paraphrasing here.) The point being, he wasn't trying to talk to dead presidents.

I don't see this as a knock at all. Nancy Regan placed her faith in astrologers. She actually helped Ronnie make important appointments on the position of the stars. Important decisions about our country were made on recommendations of people we didn't elect, that Regan didn't appoint and that the government never vetted in any way. That is scary, don't you think? And a little on the imbecile side, in and of itself?

Personally, I was very concerned when I learned this stuff, back in the day.

So, even though I have no desire in my heart to ever come to O's defense, I just can't sit back and let you throw a mater at him over this, because what he said was not all that bad.

Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for seance remark

WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama called Nancy Reagan on Friday to apologize for joking that she held seances in the White House.

At a news conference in Chicago, Obama said he had spoken with all the living presidents as he prepares to take office in January. Then he smiled and said, "I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any seances."

The 87-year-old former first lady had consulted with astrologers during her husband's presidency. But she did not hold conversations with the dead.

Obama spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said the president-elect later called Mrs. Reagan "to apologize for the careless and offhanded remark." She said Obama "expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share, and they had a warm conversation."

It actually wasn't Nancy Reagan who was linked to conversations with the dead; it was Obama's top Democratic challenger for the presidency, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

In either case, use of the word "seance" might be overstated.

Nancy Reagan consulted an astrologer to help set her husband's schedule, wrote former White House chief of staff Donald T. Regan. The revelation created a furor and President Reagan even broke with his policy of not commenting on books by former White House staffers.

"No policy or decision in my mind has ever been influenced by astrology," Reagan said.

In his book "The Choice," Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward described how Clinton consulted with a spiritual adviser who led her through imaginary conversations with her personal hero, Eleanor Roosevelt. Newsweek magazine, which was promoting the book, characterized the visits as "seances," a term that White House officials quickly tried to squelch.

"These were people who were helping her laugh, helping her think," said Neel Lattimore, Clinton's spokeswoman. "These were not seances."

His comment was incredibly insensitive. He's a very foolish man who can't speak without a speech writer and/or teleprompter.

He may turn out to be better late night fodder than we thought. Of course that will be RACIST, but who cares!

What an incompetent idiot this foolish man is.

He was probably trying to make a joke, but it was a dumb thing to say.

Never knew about Hillary and the seances. Jeez. Where do people get those ideas?

I thought it was insensitive also. Nancy Reagan is an elderly woman who shouldered the gradual loss of her husband for more than a decade. At his funeral, she struck me as fragile and alone.

Just leave her be. But no, she is just a joke to him, like everyone else in this country.

It was common knowledge that Hillary channeled Eleanor. Or at least she said she did. I think she even said she saw her ghost roaming around.

Other gaffes:

Bush Sr gave a speech to the American Legion. Despite being a WWII vet himself, he quoted Pearl Harbor as being September 7 rather than December 7 throughout the speech.

All the goofs made by Dubya.

No one will ever be as stupid as Texas gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams, who ran against Ann Richards. He was leading the election until his handlers let him open his mouth and talk. First he made a joke that compared Texas weather to rape. He realized that was a mistake, and issued a statement to apologize, saying that he never meant to offend women. Hell, loves women. when he was in college he would go to Tijuana to get serviced by the prostitutes there. Then he began hounding Ann, who was a recovered alcoholic, about drug use.

Austinites wore tee shirts that said "I'd rather smoke dope with Ann Richards than be serviced by Clayton Williams."

The American LEFT does not really understand our enemies, the Wolves. They think since they are fellow Marxists & now have one in the Whitehouse that we will be bothers in arms. They are so off base. You see the United States in the nuclear age will always pose a threat to them. So if given the opportunity they will launch a nuclear attack to destroy our military, population centers, industries, infrastructure in such a way that we will never be a threat to them. Even today at his press conference he said that he thought that Iran should have not have nukes & will seek international support for his position. Like Russia & China will say you bet Mr. Hope & Change we will impose real sanctions on Iran. He should have said Iran having nuclear weapon is unacceptable period & will take all measures to prevent this from happening period. His remarks left the barn door wide open.

Who knows Obama's mind? Certainly I don't, and it was a poor joke at the expense of a Great American for him to make a joke about Nancy Reagan.

Perhaps he knows that he is the lowest of the lows when it comes to statesmanship, leadership, honesty, and diplomacy. Almighty God knows the truth, and is still in control. After all, God put him there. Nothing happens without God's consent, even the evil that we now have.

I didn't vote for him, and I'm not a "dirty liberal" as you are so fond of calling people.

You make too much of nothing. If you were a real man, you would say to your family as I have said to mine: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We will continue to enjoy the freedoms and rights we have always enjoyed in this Country, and stand firmly against any tyranny or enemy of those rights."

Go enjoy your life while you still can.

When he made that statement, I just put my head in my hands and groaned. Somebody has to tell that guy that he is now sitting in the Oval Office and he needs to watch what he says and how he says it. Good grief, he really made himself look like a rube.

Of course, Murtha insulted his own constituency and still won his re-election, so America might be just so damn stupid by now it doesn't matter.

Idiots.

Much Ado About Nothing.

For once, I agree with you Ender.

It was nothing.

He said nothing of consequence.

He added nothing to what his plans are.

He did manage to insult an American Icon with his ignorance.

Ridiculing a frail elderly widow?

Nice move, there 'Bambi...

She’s done more for this country than you’ve ever thought of.
That mouth's the only damn thing you’ve ever run except for that Annenberg Challenge for Commies by Commies.

And I wouldn’t be ridiculing anyone’s spiritualism if I were you, given that you spent 20 years in a Voodoo Hate Church listening to that Anti-Semetic witch doctor Jeremiah Wright damn America, preach black segregationism and condemn “middle-classness” while driving his Mercedes from the mansion to the designer dashiki store.

I’ve never heard you mock the wretched beliefs of our enemies or even the half-baked lunacies of your quack allies like Louie Farrakhan. But you’ll pick on a little old lady. That’s the mark of an arrogant bully.

Did you catch that searing, trenchant, hard-hitting, Pulitzer-level ‘truth-to-power’ investigative journalism?:

“I was wondering what books you might be reading, everyone wants to know what kind of dog are you going to buy for your girls, and have you decided on a private or public school for your daughters?”

Well, he won’t be buying a lap-dog, because he’s already got a Lap-Dog Media.

From her husband, a real President:

“I believe that communism is another sad, bizarre chapter in human history whose last pages even now are being written. I believe this because the source of our strength in the quest for human freedom is not material, but spiritual. And because it knows no limitation, it must terrify and ultimately triumph over those who would enslave their fellow man.”

You don’t need a weatherman (underground or otherwise) to tell which way the wind is blowing and you don’t need a gypsy to tell you why Obamism is not the Wave of the Future, but the last gasp of the past.

Just like Ronnie said.

It's been said that he called her the next day to apologize.

I hope she hung up on him, but she has too much class for that.

He should apologize to America.

This is going to be fun if we don't all die first.

Nancy Reagan Not 'Warm' To Him - Update

Posted by Andrea Shea King

First Lady Nancy Reagan was not amused by The Messiah's remarks at his inaugural post-election press conference yesterday, according to my source who is close to the Reagan family and prefers to remain anonymous.

"I know that he called Nancy to apologize and she was not warm to him," the longtime Reagan family friend tells me.

The source added, "I was not thrilled by President-Elect Obama's gaffe in his press conference when he said that he had consulted all the living presidents but couldn't talk to Ronald Reagan because he wasn't going to do a Nancy Reagan thing and have a seance. His wide grin after saying that, like "Am I clever, or what?" was, in my opinion, a very poor example of what he'll be like when he is on his own, without a script and a teleprompter, speaking with the tough leaders of Russia, Iran and North Korea."

According to published reports, President-elect Obama called Nancy Reagan on Friday to apologize for joking that she held seances in the White House.

But our source says the former First Lady was not amused.

"Nancy is at home, comfortable, giving her pelvic bone a chance to heal from what was in fact a minor break. I know that he called Nancy to apologize and she was not warm to him."

Well, I sure hope he didn't expect to be warmly greeted by Mrs. Reagan. He couldn't be that stupid, could he?
