The things he says sometimes blow me away
Your grandson sounds pretty grounded, probably courtesy how you raised his parent.
All this crap came to a head when school systems every where started promoting kids to the next grade regardless of their actual skills/knowledge gains. I understand that came about because the SJWs of the day decided a child would be irreparably harmed by "failure".
I was raised to believe I could/would only learn by doing; the best way to excell and grow was to learn quickly what worked and what didn't. You know; trip, fall, get up and don't repeat what took you down. That's probably a common thread here.
We could probably trace the slide in over-all educational quality
and the modern home schooling trend to that point too.
The latter is one of things that may save the US.
