WEATHER Nearly 3 inches of rain in as many hours!

San Bernardino mountains, Southern California,

The second wave of rain hit our mountain at about 5:30 pm tonight.....and IT WAS A GULLY WASHER!! We've already seen an inch and a half from the storm yesterday and the day before. Just shy of 3 inches of rain so far tonight in the last three hours, and it's still raining. Lighter now as the storm passes over, but still raining. The roads here are a mess with debris and rocks and many are flooded. Lots of thunder and lightening.

We've been getting all sorts of emergency weather warnings on the TV tonight. Apparently L.A. and Ventura counties are really getting hammered with flooding and freeways are a mess, especially those running along the foothills. Should be interesting to check the late evening news and see exactly what is going on. HOPEFULLY this storm will knock out the wild fires around us, at least in the Southland.

Got some more lightning, thunder and rain this evening. I'll check the rain gauge in the morning. Had to run off the mountain this morning. WHAT A MESS!! Lots of mud, silt and rocks on the roads, but thanks to the highway department up here they did a good job at least pushing mess off the road and clearing the way.

Down below in the valley just north of the 210 freeway on the main street was REALLY a mess with evidence of serious high water scouring and erosion from the high rushing water with lots of mud everywhere.

We have been getting that once or twice a week here for the last 3 weeks. Everything is SOGGY. I feel for you!

Yep, got another inch of rain yesterday. I think that brings it to a total of five inches +/- during this one storm. Can't believe we still have fires burning after these downpours. Simply amazing.

Despite the mudslides and flooding we're still very grateful for this desperately needed water. My trees are very happy now I'm sure and anything that helps the firefighters and reduces the risk of fire is awesome!

In California, Clovis or Fresno does something similar, runoff is sent to a pond to soak in underground.

I saw and asked but don't remember which community did that, my guess would be Clovis

On Sunday I was driving to Santa Cruz on the Coast (to watch Ironman Santa Cruz) and as I approached the base of the coastal mountains we got rain, not much. Family said it did make it into Silicon Valley, but it was far to little.
