…… Mylar bag with sea salt STINKS!?

I have a bucket of sea salt in a Mylar bag that I bought from Walton Feed a long time ago. It's taken us a long time to go through the salt. When I opened the bucket yesterday to get out 2 cups of salt (my kitchen refill), I noticed that it smelled bad. The bag smells worse than the salt so I think the smell is leeching into the salt. Has anyone heard of this? Is the salt still safe? I found a reference online that the plastic in the Mylar is somehow related to formaldehyde, but couldn't find anyone else saying that they're bag had developed a smell over time. Maybe they used a lower grade bag? I would hope not, but don't know if now I to throw away 20+ lbs of salt. Maybe I'll use it to salt the fence line if I do have to get rid of it.

Thought I'd post an update in case anyone else runs into this. I scooped out a bowl of salt and left it open on the counter overnight, loosely covered with a napkin. The smell dissipated from the salt and ice decided to use it. Not sure what to do about the salt in the bag though. I'm thinking of using a clean bucket to get the salt out of the bag, throwing away the bag, and then putting the salt back in that bucket since it has a gamma seal lid. I would think salt would not attract anything in the house? It does concern me for a little for other foods like grains and beans that might be stored for long term though.

Edit to add: the bag in question is probably 5-8 years old.
