Farm More BABIES!!

ioujc

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Went to town yesterday......got groceries and more prep items.

BUT......the local farm store had chick days and a few bunnies. Could NOT resist!!!!

Got 10 chicks, 5 Buff Orpingtons and 5 Barred Rock.......hope at least one of them is a rooster..... haven't had one for over a year, and last summer I bought an incubator.

Could NOT resist the BUN BUNS!!! Talked to the manager, she bred them. They are three fourths Chinchilla, so they will be BIG. Issues of bone to meat noted, but hardly any rabbits for sale this Spring. People might be anticipating the coming times and are keeping their stock???? Got one silver colored one and a black one with white edging marks.....both VERY beautiful rabbits.

Got NO sleep last night, because Danny, my Dachshund kept barking at them ALL NIGHT LONG!! I have them and the chicks inside for now.....still too cool for the chicks outside and wanted to handle the bunnies to get them used to me.

It was rainy all day and I got NOTHING DONE!! Had planned on doing the laundry, but laid down to take a "short' nap at about 11 AM.....
I get up at 5AM....this morning after "BARK NIGHT" I GAVE UP at 3 AM so, I guess my LAZINESS is somewhat understandable!! Woke up at 3:30 PM!!! NOT a short nap!! Oh well, there's always tomorrow, which looks like it will be rainy too.

Just saying they are cute!
DH went to the feed store yesterday said he almost brought some babies home but we have a batch In the incubator( not super reliable) but he wanted to see what hatches before we get some more.

Rural King has chicks and rabbits year round and I never pass up the chance to look in every bin and cage when I shop there. I love chickens, especially Buff Orpingtons. I wouldn't mind having a few chickens again but I just don't want to bother with raising them from chicks.

This too shall pass.
ioujc, there are several sizes of Chinchilla rabbits. The giants aren't ideal meat stock, but the smaller ones are pretty good. I've got a Chinchilla doe -- they are so pretty!

I've got Buff Orpington and Speckled Sussex chicks in the brooder. Plan to put Bantam Buff Orpington and BO x RIR eggs in the incubator soon. And may buy a few meat chicks, although the Muscovy ducks will hopefully start producing soon. I am really enjoying the Muscovies, by the way. I've heard that they may be more closely related to geese than to ducks, and the more time I spend with them, the more I can see that being true.

My friend here has been trying to convince me to get a horse -- she has three little Caspian horses, and the lady she got them from will have some foals for sale this year. A few months ago I would have said a flat no, I wasn't physically up to even a little horse. But with the tens unit for my back, and the thyroid medicine kicking in, it might not be such a bad idea. My daughter is small enough to ride one of them, and they make good little driving horses (there are ancient pictures from 3,000 years ago or so of people using these little horses to pull chariots). So I'm thinking about it.
