NEW: The NYPD rips down the Palestine flag at City College NY, throwing it on the ground before replacing it with the American flag.

Iconic.

“An incredible scene and proud moment as we have assisted City College NY in restoring order on campus, culminating in raising Old Glory once again on their campus flagpole,” said NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry.

What I witnessed tonight is like nothing I have ever seen in my life. Complete lawlessness, anarchy, body’s dragged away after scuffles, blood, mace after mace after mace spray, fires, explosives, the list goes on. The school and the city failed the students tonight. Insanity.

Eric Adams warns ‘outside agitators’ descended on Columbia campus to radicalize students as over 100 arrested: ‘A global problem’

Olivia Land ,

Mayor Eric Adams warned Wednesday that “outside agitators” had descended on Columbia University’s campus to radicalize students — as more than 100 pro-terror protesters were cuffed and hauled away by the NYPD overnight in a “massive operation.”

In total, 109 people were nabbed at the Ivy League campus after the NYPD responded to Columbia’s request to help oust a destructive mob that had illegally taken over the Hamilton Hall academic building late Tuesday, Adams and police said.

Cops are processing those arrests to “distinguish between who were actually students and who were not supposed to be on the grounds,” the mayor said at a news conference.

Hizzoner blamed the on-campus chaos on agitators who have a “history of escalating situations and trying to create chaos” instead of protesting peacefully.

“There were individuals on the campus who should not have been there. They were people who are professionals and we saw evidence of training,”
Adams said.

“I know that there are those who attempting to say, ‘Well, the majority of people may have been students.’ You don’t have to be the majority to influence and co-op an operation. That is what this about.

“This is a global problem that young people are being influenced by those who are professionals at radicalizing our children and I’m not going to allow that to happen as the mayor of the city of New York.”

Separately, 173 protesters were arrested during violent scenes at the City College of New York campus overnight, police said.

Preliminary charges from both Columbia and City College range from trespass, criminal mischief and burglary, according to cops.

Adams said the NYPD was brought in Tuesday night to quell the unrest at Columbia after the administration acknowledged “outside agitators were on their grounds training and really co-opting this movement.”

“We went in and conducted an operation to allow the university to remove those who have turned the peaceful protest into a place where antisemitism and anti-Israeli attitudes were based.”

It comes as the CUNY Gaza Solidarity Encampment group called for protesters to rally outside 1 Police Plaza on Wednesday in support of the dozens of protesters who remain locked up.

Just moments after being cut loose, one of the protesters claimed to reporters that he and his fellow cellmates had been denied water and weren’t allowed to use the bathroom overnight.

I really needed to pee the whole damn time,” Fernando Bobis, 42, said.

Bobis, a Columbia grad who practices medicine in Washington Heights, said he was among those arrested at City College after earlier protesting at the Ivy League campus.

“Five and 1/2 hours in a holding cell with no bathroom, no water, no food. I had a hard time checking my insulin to make sure I was okay. I’m Type 1 diabetic,” he said.

I think a doctor who would put himself in situations where insulin challenge is possible is not a doctor one would want for one's self.

He should work on his delivery.

"Do you want fries with that?"

Chaos Erupts At UCLA After Pro-Gaza Activists Refuse Entry To Non-Allied Students

BY TYLER DURDEN
WEDNESDAY, MAY 01, 2024 - 08:35 AM
It's like the Seattle CHAZ encampment all over again. Far-left activists have declared the UCLA campus a "liberated zone" and are refusing entry for many students not affiliated with the pro-Gaza protests. They have erected barriers and placed guards, creating makeshift checkpoints which require a special wrist band in order to gain passage.

In other words, if you aren't an "ally" then you don't get to attend classes, or, if you're lucky you are allowed to take a longer route around the barricades. Keep in mind, this is not a protected form of protest or free speech, which explains why many college campuses have chosen to have protesters removed by police. UCLA so far appears to be supporting the activists and has allowed them to take control.

The barricades and the selective barring of certain students has led to predictable anger. Various groups are now engaging protesters and have triggered what can only be described as an all out brawl. The use of weapons has been common and firecrackers have even been fired at activist tents. Whether or not the fighting is between pro-Gaza and pro-Israel groups is not yet clear, and the conflict may simply be a matter of students enraged by the general blockade. No substantial police presence is visible so far.

Though considerable criticism has been aimed at the police response to similar encampments at universities in other states and no doubt some of those actions will be reviewed in civil courts, there has been very little sympathy from the general public when it comes to woke protesters. After years of cancel culture and the threat of Antifa and BLM mobs, we are now seeing the same exact people pummeled by law enforcement and kicked out of the tent cities choking college grounds. Questions of free speech fall by the wayside when activists try to physically block other students from exercising their right to access public property and educational facilities.

A police response to clear UCLA of protesters is widely expected within the next couple of days.

Leftists have a tendency to hijack the causes of other movements as a way to elevate their own agendas, and this is exactly what is happening in the west with the Gaza issue. It is rather revealing that these protesters aren't amassing on Joe Biden's doorstep or the halls of Congress. The people most directly responsible for the funding of Israel for some reason get a pass while US colleges with no power to change anything in the Middle East are overrun.

Is this simply a matter of what is easy? Or, is there another motive at play? Is this about speaking out about Gaza, or is it about radicalizing an ever growing mob that can be manipulated by progressive gatekeepers, just as we witnessed with the BLM riots?

If I were there, I'd be starting a class action suit against the university. More of those need to happen.

But I don't like crowds, and as soon as they started putting up tents, I would've looked into taking an early final exam (or taking it online), packed up, and left. I remember all of the fallout from Kent State, and that's another example of the need to stay well away from protests.

Yep . . . stay far away from campus. Once they start shooting, all bets are off.

If you are an innocent student and get shot, it's highly likely that you will be footing the bill. Sue all that you want, but winning lawsuits will take years, plus there's all of the pain and suffering in the meantime. Nope, not worth it!

There was just an active shooter threat neutralized outside the Mt Horeb Middle school minutes ago, all schools on full lock down. Mt Horeb is about 20 miles west of Madison.

The college campus protesting clown show has had a near 60 year run, off and on. RWDS are not around the corner, as most students can't read a map, to find that corner.

It was a 14-year-old with a rifle. He was shot several times by LEO and medflighted to Madison. He never got into the building - so there were no students injured. LEO are looking for a possible second shooter.

How many of them were for real students at the university? Asking because the question needs answering.
During the press conference this morning the NYPD Commissioner said they were still sorting that all out and should have the breakdown later today.

I was reading on fox news early this morning. There was a picture within the article of when the cops loaded them onto an NYPD bus after they were made to remove all face and head coverings. The picture that was shown had a couple of men that turned their faces to look out the window. They were either middle eastern looking or Latin/Spanish looking. Anyway, I wanted to show the picture to DH but I can't find it now.

I don't think our gov'nor will put up with any nonsense from college admin who drag their feet. In the meantime, I'm sure you're keeping a watchful eye on the folks who go by.

Nope. I did give OC a. heads up text, however, Iowa is a stand your ground full castle law state and while one is NOT supposed to carry on campus I know plenty of folks that do, both staff and professors.

I do keep an eye on things, right now my hood is filled with first time parents, a few professionals at the univ, and a glut of vet med students. I like it this way, it's nice and quite.
