You've got it exactly backwards; This thread was started friday eve at 6pm, and yours was almost a day later, around noon saturday.

Unfortunately it's not unusual in the least for breaking initial casualty numbers to rise as the hours and days pass; the posts here reflect that normal transition.

Hopefully they're not going to see any more dramatic jumps in casualty numbers; fortunately the aftershocks are decreasing in magnitude, so there is that sliver of good news.

Dupe and I don't know what kind of drugs the reporter is taking but thousands are dead and there IS major damage!

I did several searches and your thread NEVER came up. So there's that. Where's the list for the aftershocks? USGS is only showing two aftershocks.

Or even the east coast of the US, there's that huge fault line that goes from upstate NY down into Alabama, and there's also that huge fault line under NYC. There's a whole lot of old buildings that's gonna crumble when the big one hits.

There are a lot of faults that people don't tend to think about. There's actually a huge fault under the Gulf of Mexico and of course there is the New Madrid Fault which, depending on who you listen to, is either due to let go in the immediate future or will be safe for a few hundred more years.

The New Madrid fault contains an area with several large cities and countless buildings which were not built to be earthquake resistant. That will be a horrendous mess if/when it occurs.

Same thing with that fault line that goes from upstate NY down towards the gulf. You have Boston, NYC, a bunch of smaller cities, Baltimore and of course Washington DC. The majority of the buildings are not up to code for a large quake.
