I planted some lemon grass for the first time ever, it's growing and fast. If you've grown it when does one harvest the stems?

I don't know if it does or not, first time growing it and am watching some videos. Looks like I need to relocate my plants because they get huge, really huge!

In any case, citronella and lemongrass are used extensively as a natural mosquito repellent. Both of them contain the compound citronella that helps to mask the scents that mosquitoes rely on to target hosts which is carbon dioxide and lactic acid.

The lemongrass plant is extremely easy to grow, flavorful, and aromatic. It's the perfect addition to your herb garden. Replanting lemongrass can be done when harvesting by simply snapping off the bottom root and a small section of the stem, while still preserving the rest of the lemongrass for use in the kitchen.

I planted some in a large pot on my back patio to repel mosquitoes. I don't know how well it repelled but when I went to remove it from that pot, it was HUGE and I could not just pull it from the pot. I had to chop up the root system with a shovel before I could attempt removing it. About landed on my butt a few times doing this. It did smell wonderful though.

Wondering if you could plant lemongrass in your garden to attract honeybees? Bees were almost nonexistant this year here at our place. A few have finally showed up, but not many.

good question. not sure why some areas don't have bees this year, we're overrun with the little darlings.

I still haven't seen any honeybees at all. Just a few sweat bees and a couple of bumblebees. That's for the whole garden. We usually have lots of them.

No, I didn't unfortunately. But beware...those blades are SHARP!!

I have to move mine because the dogs love the stuff and were eating it right off. So, I quick stuck it in a planter for now and am trying to find a safe place to move it to again!

lemongrass doesn't produce flowers or at least mine doesn't.

Once it gets going you can harvest some of them whenever you want.

I wonder how the plant scent compares to the essential oil? For me, the EO is so overwhelmingly strong, I can hardly tolerate it.
