Ladies! BEWARE of THIS!
Knox Co, TN - You've missed jury duty ... or have unpaid traffic tickets etc

A comment - This happened a few weeks ago to a personal friend. They called her and used her maiden name as well. They told her though she had unpaid tickets and needed to meet them at a local place with $3000 to get this fixed. My 16 year old was there and called me because the friend was flipping out. My daughter was trying to convince her it was a scam and it seemed so real she would not believe it. My daughter hung up with me and called local PD in order for them to say no this is a scam. To me the police need to figure this out before these women start coming up missing!

In my old home town, they used to set up sting operations with a pretty young thing when she’d first come on the dept. they caught old men from down at the trailer park…and I mean old!

Like in their 80’s…with walkers, urinary cath, etc.

Or migrant workers that didn’t ‘habla’…and the occasional college professor or preacher! :confused:

I got one of those calls this morning. Sheriff's Dept calling me about my lack of appearance for Federal Grand Jury duty. I listened quietly and said, Sergeant Smith, take your summons and put it where the light don't shine or bring it to my door. No response. I hung up and reported it to the Sheriff's Department non emergency line including the number this asshat called from.

There should be a special place in hell for these scammers!

The arrests are starting.

Gardaí arrest and charge dozens in West African criminal gang investigation

Gardaí in conjunction with Interpol have arrested and charged 33 people for money laundering as part of a global investigation targeting West African organised crime.

The investigation, dubbed "Operation Jackal", was led by law enforcement agencies in May across 21 countries in six continents and targeted cybercrime groups such as Nigerian criminal gang "Black Axe," Interpol said in a statement.

The international policing organisation said it was closing ranks on West African organised crime after recently seizing more than €2 million.

Gardaí said as part of the operation there were:

  • Three premises searched in Dublin, Wicklow and Longford;
  • Nine people arrested and detained under organised crime legislation;
  • Four people arrested and detained for money laundering offences;
  • 33 people arrested and charged for money laundering;
  • One person arrested and charged with gangland offences and money laundering;
  • Nine incidents of stolen money recovered from foreign bank accounts;
  • And over €400,000 of stolen money recovered for Irish companies.
Led by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB), the period of action began in the first months of 2023 and culminated in intensified activity during April and May 2023.

The searches and detentions were co-ordinated by the GNECB and included assistance from local garda units across the country.

In addition, GNECB said it continued to work with financial institutions to put new systems in place for the reporting of money laundering and money mules.

Positive examples of cases where money was recovered from Business Email Compromise (BEC) fraud in Ireland include:

Case 1: Complaint by company that over €98,000 was stolen in a BEC fraud and transferred to a bank account in Portugal – working with the financial institution, the payment was cancelled and all the money was recovered.

Case 2: Over €149,000 stolen in a BEC from a victim buying an apartment in Spain. Money was laundered through an account Spain. Working with the financial institution GNECB was able to recover nearly €76,000 laundered through a secondary account in Spain.

Case 3: Over €95,000 stolen in a BEC in the USA in early April 2023 and laundered through an account in Ireland. Working with the financial institution, GNECB was able to freeze and recover over €91,000.

In seven cases involving Irish companies, with over €475,000 cash stolen, over €400,000 was recovered by the GNECB.

Speaking about the results of the operation, assistant commissioner Kelly said: "Operation JACKAL continues to demonstrate our commitment to work internationally, engaging with Law Enforcement partners, such as Interpol, in disrupting the activities of Transnational Organised Crime Groups."

Isaac Kehinde Oginni, director of Interpol's financial crime and anti-corruption centre, said Interpol would pursue the criminal groups relentlessly "no matter where they hide in cyberspace".

I’ve been getting calls from number 0000000000. Might be a scam? They tell me my EBT card has been locked because of fraud. To unlock it, enter the 16 digit card number, then the 4 digit PIN number. 20 random digits seems to make them happy.
Well, isn’t your number sadly the same as their number? Heh

not even a logical scam for most clear thinking people >>> biggest problem is the fact that your name & number has made the asshole con database of "suckers" that gets passed around the Darkside .....

bigger problem is if your home address got also database listed - there's the whole slime pit that use the list but hit the streets instead of the phone >>> The Travelers had their own "family" share list of the suckers hit over the years - everything they used to do was in teams on the road scamming as they go .....

They were trying to get her friend to drive to county Sheriff’s Dept and leave the house. Probably a tag team home invasion while property unoccupied. Shocking in its scale.

And Patara is a bit longwinded but her heart is in right place Boss. Her husband was Navy, she homeschooled all three boys. This is a good heads up.

My wife and I love to play with the scammer asshats. Waste as much of their time as possible. Usually really pisses them off too.

One of my favorites was the electric company "rebate". 30% discount for x months and a refund. I acted really excited and strung him along for 5 minutes or more. Tried to get my debit card number for refund, told them I didn't have one. Told them to credit my account, no can do... lol I finally said "just send me a check". That's when he said "F--- you, you son of a bitch!".

And it was fun playing two deaf oldsters, yelling at each other. I yelled into the phone repeatedly to "speak up!" before yelling at my wife to "talk to this man" and handing her the phone. Then she was yelling at him while she and I yelled back and forth. After about the 5th time he asked her to stop yelling, he hung up. ;)

I got myself excused from any kind of jury duty. My doctor gave me a paper explaining how I have a defective tailbone that makes it very difficult to sit on anything hard. Like a jury bench.

During my career, I would show up for jury duty in my military uniform.....

"No thank you....good bye"

Now that I'm retired, they always ask "Is any one in your family law enforcement?"

"Yep, my brother and brother In-Law."

"No thank you....good bye"

Good ones - love the two deaf oldsters play. My husband wouldn't cooperate most likely but I've done something similar where I turned the TV up real loud and kept telling them I couldn't hear them and to talk louder. Most hang up on me after 3 or 4 times, but one women who called lasted 8 or 9 times before saying that if I turned down the TV maybe I could hear her. I just told her loudly I couldn't quite catch what she was saying and she finally hung up.

I love the "I'm from your TV service" scam calls. They want me to turn on the TV, so I do it, really loud and stand near the soundbar. Then they ask "what does it say at the bottom of your remote?" I'll say "made in China". Lol. "No, no. At the bottom". "Settings", etc, anything but company name which is what they are fishing for. When they finally clarify after 5 minutes of runaround and me asking to repeat because I can't hear them over the TV, I tell them "you are calling from my TV service, you should already know that".

My ex-bosses daughter was enjoying the Texas evening when she got a call. It sounded like her son and he said he had been arrested for DUI and he needed her to forward some money for bail. She said OK and began the process but she reminded him this could end his career in the military. She thought something was odd as he didn't drink much and she had just talked to him. She called his girlfriend and began to fill her in and she said wait he's right here next to me not in jail. Apparently they can clone your voice with AI and create a believable scenario to try to get you to send them money. Kind of like the Nigerian scam on steroids. It's a new world out there and you all need to be on your guard for these thieves. Like Reagan said "Trust but verify".

And never, ever, never EVER say the word "Yes" when on the phone with someone you don't know.......

Is this Mrs. So-and-so?"

"Who is calling, please?"
I never say please. The minute they start, I say "who is this?" in a less than friendly voice. Their feathers wilt immediately. My next response is "who are you with?" They usually hang up right then. I hate being that ugly to people. I'm sure they hate what they are doing but have to make a living. On the other hand, there is no point giving them false hope that I'm going to fall for their scam. I just have no tolerance for folks wasting my time.

That's why my phone is generally off. Today it was on because I was getting estimates for taking my tree down. Three crap calls. I just hung up.
I can't do that. My DIL has seizures and I always have to be ready plus we still have a land line. It's the number associated with my business so I'm stuck. Honestly, it rarely rings. All it took was never answering suspicious numbers for a few months and doing my less than friendly response if one got through.

Unfortunately, I had to start answering every call when we were waiting for some very important calls and it didn't take long until I was bombarded.
