KJP Refuses To Say If Biden Will Drink Water In East Palestine

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to say on Wednesday whether President Joe Biden would drink the water in East Palestine, Ohio, when he visits the site of a February 2023 train derailment.

Biden announced Wednesday he would visit the city where the Feb. 3, 2023, derailment occurred; the train carried toxic chemicals, which spilled during the derailment, prompting evacuations and shelter-in-place orders as authorities moved to address the release of the chemicals. A reporter asked Jean-Pierre whether Biden would drink water in the town, prompting her to dodge the question.

“Next month, when the president is in East Palestine, will he drink the water there?” a reporter asked Jean-Pierre.

Biden had previously promised to visit East Palestine in March 2023. Former President Donald Trump visited East Palestine in February 2023, donating bottled water and pallets of supplies to assist residents in the town.

“I mean, look, what I can tell you is, the president’s focus has been to do everything that he can to support this community from day one,” Jean-Pierre responded. “We get what’s going on on the ground. We understand what’s going — that’s why we’ve had the EPA, that’s why we had DOT, that’s why we had HHS, that’s why we’ve had FEMA on the ground.”

“You know, this is not about some sort of, like, political stunt here. This is not about — this is not with this is about. This is about this president being a president for everyone and showing up, showing up for this community. That’s what this is about,” Jean-Pierre continued. “I’m not going to get into some sort of political stunts about drinking — about drinking water. What we’re gonna focus about is making sure they have what they need, and the president was invited by the mayor, by community leaders, he’s going to show up. He always said he would be there when it was the most helpful.”

Biden received criticism for visiting Ukraine instead of East Palestine in the weeks after the derailment, with some calling his decision a “slap in the face.”

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, came under fire for his handling of the derailment, including for not discussing the situation in public until posting a thread on Twitter on Feb. 13, ten days after the accident. That same day, Buttigieg expressed concern about the demographics of construction workers.

Even if the water was dangerous (likely) how would you ever know it hurt him - from his current baseline you can't get much lower.
I live there. Drink the water, cook with it, bathe in it, my dogs and hubby, same. We did take the bottled water for a few months, but our drinking water is delish and we decided to go back to that cold, clear water! There are people in town who cry every day about the awful, dirty water. But there are also a lot who cry about being sick, their homes stinking, yada yada yada. I honestly don't know one person who has suffered health issues. But there sure are a lot of pending court cases for the townspeople who chose to steal from the RR. It's a mess here, and maybe always will be.

I used to be on city council and know most of the town workers pretty well. I talked with the guy that runs our water plant and asked him if the water was dangerous. Well.... It seems that the water plant, which is on the West side of town, takes all its water in from West of the town. No spoiled water from there! The creeks that have been so discussed with the blue/rainbow sheen on them are, for the most part on the Middle/East side of town. North and East of al those little cricks were a whole ton factories that constantly were dumping craps in those cricks. And it probably still happens. Those cricks and other waterways go directly south and right to the Ohio River.

Long story short, our drinking water is safer than the plastic bottles that so many are still drinking from (that are probably made from vinyl chloride which is what was in the train cars that were infamously blown up that night).

As for me, hubby and our beloved dogs, we will drink from the tap and let the other drink where they may. But in the end, I really believe there are a ton of residents who just want a buck one way or another.

And here's another thing that makes you scratch your head. One of those nasty multi colored cricks runs right by our city park. Everyone was raising 20 kinds of hell about the water, but all the good moms and dads couldn't wait to get to that same park for an Easter egg hunt sponsored and paid for by that evil Norfolk Southern. There were aerators a over the place throwing that creek water around. I don't have little kids, but prob would not have taken them there when easter was so early in the time of frame of no one knew what was going on for sure.

It's a big joke around here. It's crazy how not liked he is. It's getting somewhat back to normal here. State line bar is still closed. You can drive down the main Street again. The big blue silos aren't such a shock to see.i still hear of some that still get headaches, but not so much. Can't believe it's been a year ago
