Not expecting this to get much traction but I watched the very first original King Kong on HBO Max.
It was still entertaining, lol. Very good reproduction; I assume someone restored it. Almost all of it was clear and sharp contrast, no old film sparklies.

I was surprised at how much the Peter Jackson version was, more or less, to the original. It has been so many decades since I saw the org that I thought Jackson was deviating and getting all jacked on surpassing LOTR's that he added and overdid the whole dinosaur thing, but no, they were there in the original; he put in quite a bit that was in the original. I did remember Fay Wray writhing in terror tied to the posts, remembered the actors playing Driscoll and the First Mate when I saw them.

I've seen the original, the Jeff Bridges version, and the Peter Jackson version. Oh, and Skull Island. Not sure I've seen any of the Son of Kong versions; but now I may have to; I have a weird obsession with movies and watch quite a bit of old ones and even more than a few from the old days of black and white. Maybe it is a reincarnation thang; movies are so new, and there have been so many millenia where there was nothing like that at all; at least back to Atlantis

Lol. The original is pretty viscious; Kong just tearing up people left and right, stomped the living sh_ite of the villagers, pulling a blonde out of the high rise, seeing that it was not Anne Darrow, thinking he got gypped and dropping her 50 stories to her death.

Couldn't help but thinking, a few times, wondering, was the Kong creature TRYING to look like Tyrone? More than a few times, like when the big ape was crawling up the tall apt. building looking for Fay Wray, giant white eyes bulging out through the windows, I did think of Tyrone. Maybe it was just me :lol::lol: :crtmn::crtmn: but that is part of my fascination with books and movies and plays and tall tales; WHAT was going through the mind(s) of the creators when they did or thought of certain things, and what thoughts does it stimulate in my mind?

Anyway, thread is open for discussion on the Kong Movies, or Movies in general and what you thought of them, and why, if anyone is interested. If not at least I got the opportunity to let people know the restored original is on HBO and it is still entertaining.

How viscous was it? I think you mean “vicious.” Viscous is, well, something else (snicker)
Well, there WAS some action in the swamp that slowed them down. But an edit may be in order!

(can I get away with blaming this on spell check???? actually I could try since I misspelled the first time I typed it and did click the first word that looked close.............. buying it? anyone?)

THERE, fixed it!

Lol. The older I get the worse my spelling AND my typing gets. And the spelling was never good.

BTW, I purposely mistyped the word again hoping you would catch that little non-mistake mistake. Sigh. I'll have to try harder next time.

ps. feeding your pooch some stinky stuff are ya? Freudian slips and darning needles and all that sort of stuff.

Same streaming service that is showing all the Kong movies also had SON of KONG. I had to watch it. Campy, dumb, and fun. 1933. Three of the players from the original Kong. Denham, the cook, and the ship's captain. It was campy alright. Yes, there was also a new damsel in distress.
