Kerry has a chance to do something great for his country...

I can understand his need for caution, and that he wants to consult with his advisors and attorneys and such. But I think it is clear that he cannot pull this out.

While it may seem a minor thing in the grand scheme, I feel he can cement a bit of a "legacy" if he decides NOT to make a big fuss about this, and spares us weeks of indecision and uncertainty by conceding the election tonight.

Well said Aleph Null. Kerry MUST consider the good of our nation over any personal gain that a legal battle MIGHT bring.

I am watching MSNBC a bit and even they were saying that it would be the good thing for Kerry to concede to help heal the nation and try to bring it back together after this bitter election ! !

However, I just don't think Kerry will be such a nice guy. I think he will show his true colors and be an a$$.

I agree Aleph, but I don't think he's going to do it. He'll drag it out to the bitter end.

Of course, if he does, everyone here will comment on what a pussy he is for conceding so soon.

I really don't think so, actually.

Alan: I guess I'm naive but I think the Dems may surprise us yet.

well, he has to finish a LITTLE bit of beauty sleep, and talk with his advisors and lawyers....

Now, it is my BELIEF that, if the situation were reversed and the numbers were the same, GW would bow out gracefully at around 3 this afternoon....

But the numbers would have to be the same....in the same situation.

I do NOT believe JK has the grace or class to do this and I suspect that Alan is correct.

Would YOU put Country ahead of Yourself in this situation????

(adding that we have NO IDEA what JK's advisors are telling him about the situation on the ground here in Ohio. If they are stroking him he'll NEVER concede.)

I would love to know what the esteemed Sen. Edward Kennedy had to impart to Kerry when he arrived in Copley Square at 2:00am. I hit the rack shortly after that.

The only way Kerry will concede is if his Wife --tells him too.

She wanted this more then he does --always did way back when she was
a republican.

Maybe she'll want to give it another shot in 2008 --her and Hilary battling off.

Wait and seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..........

Barnicle: Kerry Expected to Concede at 1 p.m.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/11/3/91216.shtml

Longtime Kerry friend and Boston columnist Mike Barnicle said that after talking to Kerry campaign insiders he expects the top Democrat to concede the election to George Bush this afternoon.

"I got a sense among the command staff that early afternoon he'll step up and do the right thing here and concede the election," Barnicle told radio host Don Imus.

Barnicle seemed to have more than just a hunch, pointing to 1 p.m. rather than the 10 a.m. time frame that the Kerry campaign offered last night as the time when they'd first comment on the election results.

Barnicle said the unnamed staffers he spoke to sounded resigned to the Bush win, but that the candidate didn't want to appear to be throwing in the towel until they had an opportunity to throughly review the Ohio tally in "the harsh light of day."

Early morning numbers showed Bush with a popular vote margin of more than 3 million, with a margin of 134,000 votes over Kerry in the Buckeye state.

Noone likes a sore loser. Bush won it fair and square. If the Dems try and drag this out like they did in 2000, they are digging even a deeper grave for themselves in 2008.

Looks like Kerry has it in him after all. I still prefer being at least a little naive when it comes to things like this...

You were right, Aleph. It appears that he is going to concede. A pleasant surprise for us all.

Anyone want to makes bets that President Bush will take a long hard look at the fact that he only just barely pulled it off once again and actually try to persuade the nation to work together?

Anyone?

A very classy move. Also a smart one, realizing that he would eventually have to concede. It does improve my opinio of him overall.
