JT-60SA: World's largest nuclear fusion reactor powers up in Japan

The largest and most advanced nuclear fusion reactor, "JT-60SA," has commenced its official operations in Japan's Ibaraki Prefecture.

This technological innovation represents a collaborative initiative between the European Union and Japan to establish nuclear fusion as a future sustainable and clean energy source.

During the inauguration ceremony, both the EU and Japan "underlined their support for the operation and technical upgrades of JT-60SA to continue producing groundbreaking research results," mentioned the press release from the European Commission for Energy.

Tokamak fusion reactor

JT-60SA belongs to the category of "tokamak-type fusion reactors."

Fusion reactions occur within a doughnut-shaped chamber, and magnetic fields are employed to confine the extremely hot plasma.

Real smart...can't they find somewhere less tectonically active to experiment?
It's government: There's always a chance that there are dangers they're not telling us about or secret things they're doing.

With that in mind, there should be no danger to the public from an experimental fusion reactor. It doesn't use or create radioactive material or produce radioactive waste. That's one of the biggest advantages of fusion.

Thus far we've only been able to create practical fusion in Hydrogen bombs, which require radioactive atomic bombs as their 'sparkplug.' That's actually a good thing, because if anyone ever designed a Hydrogen bomb that didn't require an a-bomb every two bit terrorist with a grudge could be building them in their garage.
