I read the book in 1973. In 1981 we visited my Grandparents in Germany and was flabbergasted to learn that the movie premier was happening during our stay. I had no idea they were even making a movie. It wasn't released in the States until later.

"Das Boot" - Klaus Doldinger Soundtrack[HD]

Soundtrack
The characteristic lead melody of the soundtrack, composed and produced by Klaus Doldinger, took on a life of its own after German rave group U96 created a remixed "techno version" in 1991. The title theme "Das Boot"[38] later became an international hit.

The official soundtrack[39] features only compositions by Doldinger, except for "J'attendrai" sung by Rina Ketty. The soundtrack ("Filmmusik") released following the release of The Director's Cut version omits "J'attendrai".
Songs heard in the film, but not included on the album are "La Paloma" sung by Rosita Serrano, the "Erzherzog-Albrecht-Marsch" (a popular military march), "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" performed by the Red Army Chorus, "Heimat, Deine Sterne" and the "Westerwald-Marsch".

"Final Confrontation" - End Credits (Craig Safan/Tangerine Dream), from Thief (1981) OST

By some miracle, I was able to isolate this track from a rare extended version of the OST for Thief (1981), by Craig Safan. This version of the final song, Confrontation, is the ACTUAL version used in the film, which is very different from the OST version you usually hear...its much more cosmic and dark, just like in the final 5 minutes of the film, which is still my favorite Michael Mann film to date.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Roman Legions Are Marching (SPQR, 2018, runtime 3:34) - I think (but I could have this wrong) this was recorded with musical instruments (or their modern equivalents) that would have existed at that time

Time (Angèlia Grace, 2015, runtime 6:42) - she uses her voice almost like a musical instrument and I think she TRILLS like a siren luring your ship onto the rocks, it's a cover of the movie "Inception" song
