Groucho

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I never understood Mac Arthur Park. It used to make me cringe every time it came on the radio.
Now, I think it was about all the destroyed dreams in LA. It's so easy to become just another victim there.

Hmmm........
I thought I had written this to you, but can't find it.
Basic meaning of the song is this: "The songwriter, Jimmy Webb, was in love with a girl, and they went for a walk in MacArthur Park. She says, "Look, we have been together for a long time now; you have to marry me." She proposes. He says no. She meets somebody else that she was keen on. Now MacArthur Park is what? It's where he lost her. So he goes back and sees the old men playing checkers under the trees, and the cake is the wedding cake. . . . The wedding cake that he blew. It's melting in the rain. And he will never have that recipe again. " It's said that the rain is the tears he sheds.

Thanks, Groucho. I didn't ever know that. Well, faint heart never won fair maiden and all that. So he blubbered instead. I still don't like that song, whine whine whine.

Deja Vu -- one of my very fav CSNY songs. ETA: little supposed factoid about Deja Vu - I read somewhere, maybe a Youtube comment, that CSN were military brats. You know the line, "Do you know, don't you wonder, what's going on, under the ground, down under you"? Well, it's them pointing out the underground military bases/UFO bases underneath the earth. We didn't know nuffin bout dat back in the day.............. FWIW.

Here's a live version with Crosby's son, James Raymond, on piano. Check out the guitar solo. Oh my.

I actually thought this was gonna suck. Hahahaha.............

Was fortunate to listen to Ella Fitzgerald in person. She did the Memorex thing. Recordings don't begin to do her voice justice.
