Looks like a 50-60 passenger bus, so I would guess it has a GVWR of about 26,000 lbs. The engine is some sort of Navistar Diesel V8. It is probably an automatic transmission, as most school buses have long since abandoned manuals, which probably means some sort of Allison, probably a 3-speed. The rear axle probably has a gear ratio of around 4:1, as most school buses don't need to run at more than 50mph (are generally restricted by law in how fast they can go with students on board, so the companies don't bother to set them up to go faster). You can get it up to 60, but it will be screaming.

It most likely has around 60,000-80,000 miles, again because schools can only run buses for 5 years before they must replace them, and most bus routes are in the 20-mile or less range, and whoever got it after will very likely not have driven it much.

and 3. It's pretty much RTG. Lady and her kid were living in it before so it can be watered and powered. No storahe for water or sewer but I read last night using 10'/a0" pvc for that and I'm thinking something similar on the roof as a solar water colector.

Also a couple panels of solar yard lights mounted in a window. Five or six would light a room quite well.

I want it to be so I can plug in at a campground or wherever but still be able to get off and awat and have some comforts.

Be pretty funny to see you driving down the road with that window A/C hanging off the side of the bus.

How hard would it be to install an RV roof A/C? That would be the better way to go IMHO, since they probably draw less power than a standard household window A/C.

those rooftop Coleman AC's are not that efficient, and IIRC they are 12vdc.

GE makes a 5000 btu ac that only draws 4 amps, and it has a REMOTE

I dodn't nptice that in the pics till today. AT least it HAS an AC to start with. SAme as my fifth wheel-pull it in for roadtrips.

It's in the mountain deserts of AZ...5he AC only need to run a few hours a day then open windows and turn on fan.

Maybe a home-built swamp cooler for those areas. Wouldn't help for places like here or the muggy S.E.

But-At least I won't be starting from scratch and the layout aint bad. Nice woodwork too.

And if you didn't like HF's color scheme, here's another!;)

Seriously, I guess the blue bus to be about a 1974-1977 IHC Loadstar. S-series came out in 1978, IIRC-much different hood. I guess a 392 V-8, straight 4-speed, and straight air brakes.

You're ALMOST right, Opus...

...Remember, this is for Satanta. You'll have to change one letter: "CARTRIDGE FAMILY" would work just fine for Sat.:D :sh1:
