I'm ready to go Old-school

My wife will be shopping for a used Ford Taurus come tax time. I'm thinking of selling/trading my 98 Corolla for an older US car or a mid-80s Toyota truck.
I thought of an old VW Type I, but they are just too small... I'd prefer a Ford or Mopar. Just not a GM guy. I've ruled out AMC (parts), but maybe a CJ7.

I love the smell of diesel...:D My handle is from back when I had an 86 Isuzu Trooper TDI.
I've always been happy with Toyota and an 84-85 4x4 would be nice. I've just been having this itch for an American rear-drive car. Something with simple maintenance and good parts availability.
An old Toyota truck would be more practical. I don't truly need 4x4. :shr:

I'm not sure where your located but I'm in the NY area and most of the 80's vintage cars are just rotted out rust buckets. I have an 87 F350 diesel built like a tank but the body rusted right off the frame. I you want a simple American rear-drive car try auto trader classics they seem to have a selection of some better kept cars.

If you could find a solid Toyota with the 22r 4 cylinder you won't regret it. I loved my 91, rust got it at just under 320K.
