The wife's aunt had an extra one left due to downsizing and gave it to me. I also was able to get ahold of several patterns men and general related. I know it is a singer model, I just need to check model number again and do some research on it. So I was blessed with that. I just was not able to get her sewing thread box before it got sold.

You will probably be better off buying new thread. But the box itself might have been nice. On the other hand, I have two boxes meant for that purpose and they both drive me nuts. I just started using 6" wide shelves and clips to attach bobbins to their spools of thread.

Good going! May the new machine bring you many happy hours of sewing!

Thread isn't cheap anymore, but it's not going to break the bank, either. I usually set a few bucks aside each paycheck and watch for coupons and sales. I buy most of my notions and material that way, but I admit to running out to JoAnn's if I'm in the middle of a project and need something. That has been happening lately, no matter how carefully I plan.

The one task I have found polyester/synthetic anything preferable to natural fibers is with sewing thread. There are times when silk or cotton is better, but with machine sewing, I find the synthetic stuff breaks less and lasts longer.

I buy thread when it comes in bulk in places like Aldi, Lidl, or other shops, I just look for full-sized spools that have a range of good colors. In most sewing the thread doesn't have to match exactly, you can use navy blue thread of black fabric or the other way around - but it does need to be close to the fabric color.

Melodi, I've found that in an exact color match of thread to fabric, the thread will appear too light. I was once told that it's best to use a thread that is just a touch darker than the fabric and it will appear to be a perfect match.
I was always taught to pull a strand and lay it across the fabric. Nowadays I only do that if I've got 2 close choices. But I work so much with heavy duty and eloflex at the moment that I rarely have two choices. So I just go with the closest color. Neither of those thread styles have a extra large amount of color choices.

Yes, I still remember my grandma always saying, "Thread works up lighter".
