…… How Do I Preserve Freshly Shelled Walnuts?

I have been fortunate enough to have been given about 20 pounds of freshly shelled walnuts.

Can you provide suggestions or pointers on what I can do to preserve these nuts for the longest term possible?

Neither here nor there.
Instead of pecan pie... walnut pie.
Walnut nut butters, toast them first for an even richer flavor.
Toasted walnuts on your salad with some freshly sliced strawberries, yum!
Walnut and golden beet salad.
Walnut and goat cheese on crackers, again toast the walnuts for even better flavor.
Walnut encrusted pork loin (or whole boneless chicken breasts) baked in the oven, with rosemary and thyme.
Pesto made with toasted walnuts, instead of pine nuts, yum! Very high in antioxidants!
Banana walnut bread/muffins
Zucchini walnut bread/muffins
Walnut coffee cake
Granola with walnuts

I think you get the picture, anything you'd put a pecan, almond, or pine nut into you can sub out with walnuts.

My grandmother threw pecans in the freezer. They were like fresh for YEARS. I dont think almonds have as much fat as pecans, so that’s what I would do. It doesn’t make it “right” but I would try it.
