Here are the Democrats Who are Skipping Trump’s Inauguration

58 not attending inauguration Fox News
by Adelle Nazarian17 Jan 20172

At last count, over 50 Democrats have announced they will be skipping President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday, January 20. The majority of them are from the deep blue state of California.

According to Roll Call, Democrats who are planning to skip Trump’s historic swearing-in ceremony include Reps. John Lewis (D-GA), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Don Beyer

(D-VA), Mark Takano (D-CA), Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Ted Liu (D-CA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), John Conyers (D-MI), Mark Desaulnier (D-CA), Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Kurt Schrader

(D-OR), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), William Lacy Clay (D-MO), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Jos Serrano (D-NY), Judy Chu (D-CA), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Jared Huffman (D-CA), Katherine Clark

(D-MA), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Karen Bass (D-CA), Keith Ellison (D-MI), Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Marcia Fudge (D-OH), Al Green (D-TX),

Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Anthony Brown (D-MD), Chellie Pingree (D-ME), John Yarmouth (D-KY), Dwight Evans (D-PA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Grace

Napolitano (D-CA), Raul Ruiz (D-CA), Adam Smith (D-WA), Darren Sotto (D-FL), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), Joaquin Castro (D-TX), Tony Cardenas (D-CA), Mike Doyle

(D-PA), Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), Donald M. Payne (D-NJ), Alma Adams (D-N.C.), Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA), Robert A. Brady (D-PA), Frederica Wilson (D-FL), Jerry McNerney (D-CA), and

Peter A. DeFazio (D-OR).

Although no Democratic senators have indicated they will be missing the inauguration, CNN has suggested that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has left the door open for those deciding to do so. Schumer said, “I think each person has to make the choice on their own, but I don’t begrudge those who have said they’re boycotting. Each person can make his or her own decision.”

Dozens of Democratic lawmakers announced they would not attend the inauguration after legendary civil rights activist Rep. John Lewis stated that he does not believe Trump is a “legitimate president,” that he is “wrong” for the nation, and that this is the first inauguration at which he will not be present.

However, soon after he made his comment, a report surfaced that Lewis had skipped George W. Bush’s inauguration because he did not believe Bush was the true elected president, thus it would be hypocritical for him to attend.

Trump tweeted, “John Lewis said about my inauguration, ‘It will be the first one that I’ve missed.’ WRONG (or lie)! He boycotted Bush 43 also because he thought it would be hypocritical to attend Bush’s swearing-in….he doesn’t believe Bush is the true elected president.’ Sound familiar!”

New Hampshire Democrat Rep. Carol Shea-Porter noted that instead of attending the inauguration she’ll go to religious services to “pray for all of our leaders and people.” Shea-Porter represents a congressional district that Trump won. In fact, Trump won more votes than Shea-Porter did. Shea-Porter received 162,080 votes in her district, CD-1. Trump received 179,259 in the same district.

Jeanie Forrester, who is running for chair of the New Hampshire Republican Party, sent out a tweet pointing this out:

.@realDonaldTrump won NH-01 district in Nov. Received more votes than @TeamSheaPorter https://t.co/JyQjoj5tbd #nhpolitics

Forrester, who is running uncontested and has received the backing of Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH), will face elections on Jan. 28.

In response to the Democrats skipping the inauguration, Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) said, “Put your big boy pants on.” He added, “and let’s start working together.”

On Fox this morning Trump was asked about what he thought about all the Democrat Reps boycotting his inauguration. His response was classic Trump. 'Can I have all your tickets?' The Reps get prime seating and there are a lot of people that want to attend but there isn't room for them.

Neither here nor there.
I thought Lewis skipped one of the Bush's inauguration, because he didn't see him as a legitimate president? If so then what's all the hubris about, the guy only recognizes black people as a legitimate president which makes him patently racist.

Oh wait, he's black and therefore cannot be racist.

Lewis started protesting racism and has since become a racist as so often happens.
How ironic that those like him are now referring to all blacks who meet with Trump as mediocre Negros.

< Yes, I do look like that.
Wonder how many of these folks are gonna be dropped by their constituents when they come up for reelection.

Three out of five of our reps won't be going to the inauguration here in OR. They are all Dems. One D and our sole R rep are still going as far as I know. Unless we go for 4 out of 5. I don't see that OR will vote any differently next time, unfortunately.

Three of the five Congresscritters in Oregon aren't going. This includes Earl Blumenhaurer, my Congressman, who is about as hard left as you can get. Sorry, OddOne, but none of the three in Oregon will lose their seat over this. Blumenhaur's district is all Multnomah County. De Fazio is Eugene, and Schrader is mostly Marion County.

I did security for Blumehauer back in the 1980's when he was running for City Council. He really is a repulsive, arrogant, can't do anything but be a political hack kind of guy. He has NEVER done anything but be in school, be a lawyer/lobbysist, or be a politician at the city, county and in Congress. I think he has been in Congress for over 20 years. I know he has been in politics, local, state and federal since 1984 at least.

Oregon is one of the four states that are mentioned as absolute Democratic Party dictatorships. The only elected office in Oregon held by a Republican is the Secretary of State. EVERY SINGLE OTHER ELECTED OFFICE, PLUS BOTH THE SENATE AND HOUSE IN OREGON ARE MAJORITY DEMOCRAT. In fact, both the House and Senate are within a vote or two of Absolute Demorcatic SuperMajority. Ergo, some more anti-gun, anti-freedom laws are going to be passed this term.

The final thing is the Governor is a Bi-Sexual, and the Democratic leader in the House is a Lesbian. However, the guy who went after the bakers for not baking the wedding cake for the two lesbians was voted down when he ran for Secretary of State.

Washington, Oregon and California are now about as hard, radical left as you can get without moving to North Korea.

One final thing is the City of Portland, Multnomah County and the State of Oregon are now officially, declared by the Mayor and City Council, declared by Governor Brown and declared by the Multnomah County Council, OFFICIALLY, LEGALLY AND IN FULL DEFIANCE OF FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAW SANCTUARY CITIES, COUNTY AND STATE.

I think Trump has a long memory and a subtle vindictive streak. You've all heard the expression, "Vengeance is a dish best served cold"? I strongly suspect that down the road, when they least expect it, these guys (and women) are going to get a heaping serving of some sort of 'cold' dish off of the sh*t buffet.

Best regards

Got it.

Decorum, courtesy, respectful disagreement are officially thrown out the window.

Now, if the left brings violence, and the folks in dc continue to condone left on right violence, then I think it appropriate for the occasion caning to return to the halls of Congress.

Maybe even a duel or two.

What's good for the goose and all that.

Not the state but just 2 counties in WA, 95% of the land mass is conservative. I believe that vote fraud is rampant as well, otherwise Trump would not have lost in the wee hours in WA on election night, and visual support (campaign signs, etc.) for klinton was nearly invisible, even in the 2 leftist counties that run the state.

This may all be a co-inky-dink and I hope it is. Does it hit anyone here suspicious that almost last minuet all these Dems deciding not to attend the Inauguration and President and Mrs. Bush Sr. being in the hospital at this time? That said if anything, anything happens to Trump at the Inauguration there may be some questions that will need answers. I seem to remember reports of back when President Lincoln was assassinated a lot of important people were suspiciously out of town.

Add another congressman to that list-Democratic 11th district of Virginia congressman Gerry Connolly. He announced this afternoon he won't be going. Which is great because the SOB is up for reelection this year.
A little background on Mr. Connolly-he was training to be a Catholic priest when he met his wife. Both are nice people in person except for their socialist worldview. The interesting thing to me is, he's Catholic yet is a pretty vocal supporter of abortion. He's pro choice.

I think he's got a special place in hell reserved just for him.

Also-I'm glad the socialists aren't going-the tickets will go to people who actually want to be there. When George W's inaugural took place in 2005, the RNC set up bleachers along the parade route (and charged 30 bucks a ticket too!). Well, people didn't want to pay the price, and we were standing around one of these nearly empty bleachers at FBI HQ when a FBI agent invited us to sit in the bleachers for free. We had a great time-and the people who benefit from these special snowflakes not attending will also have an awesome time.

More than 60 Democratic House members won’t attend Friday’s swearing-in

@Simone Pathé

Even before President-elect Donald Trump attacked Georgia Rep. John Lewis on Twitter over the weekend, a handful of Democratic lawmakers had planned to boycott Trump's inauguration on Friday.

But by the end of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday night, that group had ballooned. As of Wednesday morning, more than 60 Democrats in the House have now said they will not attend. No Democratic senators have announced similar intentions.

In a taped interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Friday, Lewis said he would not be attending the inauguration because he believes Trump is not a “legitimate president.” That provoked an early-morning Twitter tirade from Trump in which he dismissed the civil rights icon as “all talk, talk, talk.”

The criticism of Lewis prompted other members of the House Democratic Caucus to announce that they would skip the inauguration, too, out of solidarity with Lewis. Massachusetts Rep. Katherine M. Clark, California Rep. Barbara Lee, Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Illinois Rep. Luis V. Gutiérrez were among the first to announce they’d skip the inauguration, well before Lewis’ comments. They’re now being joined by Democrats from across the country, most of whom represent reliably blue districts.

Here’s a list of the Democrats who have announced they will not attend, with those who most recently announced closer to the top.

Virginia Rep. A. Donald McEachin said Wednesday afternoon that his train ticket to D.C. for the inauguration will go unused. "I'm not sure what there is to celebrate," he said.

Alabama Rep. Terri A. Sewell said Wednesday afternoon that the "blatant disrespect" toward Lewis dissuaded her from attending. But she called for healing moving forward.

"There is a bridge in my district where we all can gain inspiration, and I invite President Trump and Congressman Lewis to join me in visiting Selma to walk hand-in-hand across that bridge as one nation, indivisible and united," Sewell said.

Virginia Rep. Gerald E. Connolly released a statement on Wednesday saying that he “cannot” attend Trump’s ceremony.

Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskinsaid Tuesday, “These are not normal times and I cannot pretend as if they are.” His decision not to attend is a change. On Sunday, he told Bethesda Magazine it was his “constitutional duty to be there.”

New Jersey Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr. said in a Tuesday evening statement that he “will not celebrate [Trump’s] swearing-in to an office that he has proven unfit to hold.”

I agree with Old Gray Mare: "Does it hit anyone here suspicious that almost last minuet all these Dems deciding not to attend the Inauguration..."

IF something happened at the inauguration...these democrats would be left to run the country.

Remember the Executive Order on succession of Attorney General from last Friday? - Obama picked AG of DC (east coast), AG of Illinois (midwest), AG of California (west coast). East coast, middle, west coast. Doesn't that seem a little odd?

And just a week before Trump is the new president.

I'll be glad when Monday gets here and nothing bad has happened.

Others who aren’t attending the inauguration -- but not explicitly because of Mr. Trump

A handful of Democratic politicians are opting out of Inauguration Day in D.C. -- but aren’t specifically saying they’re doing so as a form of protest against Mr. Trump. Here are those five members and their reasons for skipping town:

Frederica Wilson (D-Florida): Wilson never planned to attend the inauguration because her goddaughter is getting married Saturday.

Lacy Clay (D-Missouri): Clay’s office says he is choosing to “stay home and spend time with young constituents. He is not boycotting the event, just making a different choice.”

Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon): DeFazio isn’t planning to attend, but this is nothing new for him: he typically avoids the inauguration. He told Oregon Public Broadcasting that he doesn’t like to attend the “pomp and circumstance events in Washington.”

Adam Smith (D-Washington): Rebecca Bryant, a spokeswoman for Smith, said he will spend inauguration week “at home in Washington state meeting with his constituents” since the House isn’t in session.

Dan Lipinski (D-Illinois): His office said he is not specifically boycotting the inauguration, but “will be attending to office and family-related matters this week.”

Mike Quigley (D-Illinois): Quigley’s office says he “fully supports the peaceful transfer of power,” but is planning to spend the week in his district since the House is not in session. He is ready to work with Mr. Trump “on bipartisan issues in which they can find common ground,” his office said, but also will “continue to hold the President-elect accountable.”

Bobby Rush (D-Illinois): Rush is not attending because his wife is in the hospital.
