Cars Help

My mother's car has been in the garage since 3/2020 when all the Covid stuff started. It does not currently start ... battery?? It has the gas that was in it when everything shut down. Is it going to be okay to use even though it has been in the garage that long? I figured if I cannot get the car started due to the battery, I can have it towed to mechanic. I am just hoping we have not totally ruined the car by letting it sit so long. Appreciate your input!

Ummm... Definitely new battery. I'd say gas treatment needed. Oil change needed. And the tires may need to be replaced. I'm sure there's a whole bunch more to go over that can be a problem with a vehicle sitting unused for so long. I'm by no means an expert. That's just where I'd start.

The battery might just need to be charged. Smelling the gas is a good idea. If the gas smells okay (I think it likely will be fine), then I would jump start it and drive it to a gas station to get some fresh gas in it. Adding some gas treatment before starting is a good idea.
Things are not always a worst-case scenario.

Tell us the make and model of the car. I have “woke up” several cars that have been sitting a while. I would start by charging or jump starting the car. If it starts add some “sea foam” fuel treatment to the tank. Walmart has it in a white metal can. Let it idle a while. After running 30 minutes the battery should be charged enough to start. If it seems to run ok drive it to a station and put in some fresh gas. It may be a bit sluggish until the new gas mixes in. The oil should be changed soon. The battery may be ok but don’t be suprized if it’s bad wal mart or any auto parts store can test it. Check the tire pressure before driving much.

Year? Make? Model? Carb or FI? CHECK AIR FILTER for mouse nests! At least glance at wiring under hood for signs of mouse/squirrel gnawing. Check when charging/installing battery to make sure you're not letting out magic smoke when turning on key.

Go watch mortske repair up on YouTube
He drags in junkets that have been parked for 18 to 20 years
And
Gets em running with a minimum of effort
First check the gas. With smell test. Varnish. Replace
Battery is a given
Only three years the brakes and tires are most likely good

Check the radiator for leak down

Spray some go juice in the carb and see what happens

Mortske repair.
Fun to watch for us old motor heads
And
He’s got some real old clunkers going

Real mechanic there

Old school
Does with with old school reasoning
Not gizmos and computers

I watched him get a old 1960 Chevy impala going that I said no way
He even videoed mice running outa the tail pipe.
Lots a luck
