Greetings,
A local church is operating a fireworks stand to raise money for a building project. I was talking to the coordinator of this project, who said he had been having a terrible time with the City and had thus far been unable to get the necessary permits.
Now, fireworks are legal, and the stand met all the necessary requirements (and there are many). The "inspector" verbally said that the permit would not be forthcoming until the Church cleared some weeds on a parcel of property across town. It is true that the church is the property owner, but it is also true that this property is leased to someone else. This aside, I do not see a connection between issuing a fireworks permit and needing to clear weeds on a piece of property several miles away. I call it extortion. Opinions??
