Food Green Tomato Relish

Bones

Living On A Prayer
This is what I was raised on, as was my mother, and her mother before her. It goes wonderfully on beef, pork, chicken, and hot dogs and sausages in buns. We use it in making potato salad, macaroni salads, etc, too. I hope you are able to make some and enjoy as much as we do. IMG_20210415_070812.jpg

Thanks Bones! Looks an awful lot like my chow-chow recipe that I learned to make and can with Mom before our move north. She got it from my Dad’s mom and it goes back at least a few more Generations. Everyone is eager to get their quart or pint when it’s done and I plan to put up a good bit this year.

This is what I was thinking, it's chow-chow!

Zounds! I ended up with a dozen green tomatoes left out back and frost is coming. Plus a whole lot (a whole lot) of green cabbage yet to harvest. If I can find a few more green ‘maters locally, I’ll get to can some of this up this week. Too much happens in September!

(Did I say Zounds…)

We eat this with breakfast eggs or dinner pirogies. Or anything, really :)

I love that stuff and make several jars a year but lately I am making more
I gave my bil a jar of it 2 years ago and he loves it so now I make 12 pints for me and 6 pints for him
I like it on beans and hot dogs the best but it works for many other things

Cool, we love beans but I usually just make a fresh tomato and pepper relish to go with. Why didn’t I think of chow chow, lol! Both my sons and my step-mom are waiting impatiently for this year’s batch to get mailed. Just did nine (9!) quarts of ChilI, with no beans. Chow chow is the plan for Saturday cuz tomorrow is sauerkraut…and I think I’ll take China’s idea and make kimchee too. :)
