Gavin Newsom to the Rescue: Signs Executive Order on Cargo Crisis
Joel B. Pollak3-4 minutes 10/20/2021

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order on Wednesday that, he claims, will address the cargo crisis at Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, which saw a record 100 ships at anchor Tuesday and has caused a nationwide supply shock.

The White House immediately celebrated Newsom’s executive order with a laudatory tweet from press secretary Jen Psaki:

However, it is not clear what, if anything, Newsom’s executive order will do to address the crisis, which is a result of high demand for imports; a shortage of dock workers and truckers; and storage and logistical problems at the ports themselves.

Newsom’s order directs state agencies to “identify additional ways to alleviate congestion at California ports”; to “continue coordinating with the Biden-Harris Administration Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force”; and to consider long-term plans for better storage, transportation, and skills training. It also directs state agencies to “identify priority freight routes to be considered for a temporary exemption to current gross vehicle limits to allow for trucks to carry additional goods.”

The text of the order also touts California’s past investments at the Port of Oakland and its plans for zero-emissions trucks.

The cargo crisis has been ongoing for months, with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg convening a roundtable on port congestion in July — shortly before disappearing for an unannounced paternity leave in mid-August, which continues.

HOLY CRAP he's forming a study group! He's not looking for a solution, he's deflecting blame. Thanks a bunch, old buddy.

I found out from a friend that California does not allow independent truckers to operate in the state.

If this is true...Newsom could have written an order to allow independent truckers to the docks...if he really gave a rat's *ss about the backlog.

Place your bets!

5 to 1: Require all ports to pay a "living wage" of $250 an hour.
15 to 1: Require all ports to close until a "blue-ribbon commission" can determine why more black people aren't unloading cargo.
35 to 1: Require all ports to close until all cargo ships are powered by oars.

Yes, the awful AB 5, which banned owner-operator truckers, along with Uber drivers. Newscum is such a clueless dumbass

$50 an hour? That's funny right there. Longshoremen unloading the ships make $250,000 a year plus bennies. They would all strike if their pay was cut that much.

The ships are being held offshore WAITING FOR INFLATION and the price of the goods contained within to go up.

Think of it. All those goods were produced back in July or August. Back then the dollar had only been inflated a little. Since then everyone is waiting for the other horse-shoe to drop and the "Stimulus" give-away to be passed - which will put napalm on the inflationary fire. If that's the case and hyperinflation results - the goods will be worth much more in dollars.

Good produced when money as a number was small. Now to be sold when money as a number will be big.

The longer they hold the ships, the greater the inflationary pressure (law of supply & demand and Congressional financial arson) and the more they will get for the goods later.

Better return on your money than bank interest. POssibly better than a return in the stock market.

Those who have GOODS in inflationary times will do well to hold long, and sell higher.

Owner says this same modus was followed during the oil price-run-ups of the 1970s. He tells of going to the roof of the power plant, looking through binoculars, and seeing two or three tankers anchored offshore just beyond Cape Cod - waiting for the price of oil on the market to go up.

California has new emission requirements for trucks, if you don't have said truck you aren't driving here. Many have gone out of business because they couldn't afford the costs....

Thats what Ive heard. This is apparently the cause of the logjam at the ports.

Newsom is holding the freight hostage with his regulations.

They can run the port facilities 24/7 all they want but with little to no trucks, the docks will just become ginormous warehouses.

They want to create the perfect situation to implement driverless electric trucking.

There will not be any truck drivers soon.

When my Step Dad and his friend quit the Carpenter's Union over lack of work in the winter out here my Dad's friend went to work as a Longshoreman and my Dad went to Knotts berry Farm. Friend made his life's fortune and Dad stayed poor but happy. Friend was able to build a home in exclusive Palos Verdes with Dad's help. If you knew the right people to get hired it paid more than just about any job out here.

How stupid do they really think we all are anyway? Anyone with two working brain cells knows that going back to allowing trucks more than 10 years old and letting owner operators work within the state would go a long way towards helping solve the problem --- so it's obvious they WANT the shortages.

Another factor no one is talking about.

All those ships setting off shore have crews. All the time they are there, those crews pay goes on. And they have to be fed. Those costs continue to pile up.

I had an uncle that was in the river boat towing business. When the Silver Bridge at Point Pleasant fell & blocked the Ohio River, he had several boats up stream that were stuck. He still had to pay & feed the crews. A lot of money overhead!

And yet he survived the recall if I remember correctly.
What's so sad is that this is a self inflicted wound and they still don't know what's wrong.
The whole west coast is ground zero for voter fraud, don't blame the voters. Wa state judge would not allow a recall petition for comrade insley.

Yesterday DeSantis told those ships to come to Florida, Jacksonville port is ready and waiting. Gov hairdoo is trying to stop the ports in Fla and Houston from taking those ships. I have heard whistle blowers reports that even when they allow them to bring the goods off the ships, hairdoo is renting vast warehouses to store the stuff. The supply lines are being destroyed on purpose.
