And owning land in Crockett's time was actually easier than was owning a gun. To 'own' land, all you needed was 4 piles of 'naturally occurring rocks' stacked at the 4 corners of the land you decided to own. To own a gun, you had to have money...and therefore a job to earn that money...to buy one.
