The Unused Path: Skills for living an authentic life
by Vincent H. O'Neil

LIVE MORE AUTHENTICALLY. Something that is authentic is genuine. When we lead authentic lives, it means our thoughts and actions reflect our values and our personalities. This book offers advice for leading an existence that is more genuine. Along with that, it provides techniques for managing your time, solving problems, staying organized, and other important life skills. It's called The Unused Path for several reasons: Paths lead from one place to another. This work contains advice and practical approaches you might find useful on your journey toward a more authentic life. The path is unused because a good deal of the information in this book isn't emphasized as much as it once was. Most of the advice and the skills offered here have been circulating for a very long time. They're fundamental and valuable but, like so many worthwhile concepts, they can get overlooked in the increasing competition for our attention. That doesn't mean the path's irrelevant, or that it's gone. A path that isn't used becomes overgrown, but it's still there even if it's not easy to see. This path is still there because it leads toward a valuable destination -- the living of an authentic life you can truly call your own. Let's walk some of it now.

The Cuban Missile Crisis
by Hourly History

The Cold War between the United States of America and the Soviet Union lasted for more than 40 years. In general, this was a war of spies and subterfuge, of covert action and espionage. There was always a danger, however, that an error of judgment on either side could suddenly cause the Cold War to turn red-hot with an exchange of nuclear weapons. On many occasions, tensions between the countries increased, but the prospect of all-out nuclear war between America and Russia was never closer than during a two-week period in October of 1962. In response to the placement of American nuclear missiles in Turkey, Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev secretly ordered the transport of Russian nuclear missiles to the island of Cuba in the Caribbean. These were capable of reaching and destroying almost all American cities in a matter of minutes. When this was discovered, the U.S. administration under President John F. Kennedy decided that the threat had to be removed, even if this meant risking war with Russia. The Americans set up a blockade of the island and considered air strikes and even a full-scale invasion of Cuba. Forty thousand heavily armed Russian and Cuban troops supported by tanks, aircraft, and even tactical nuclear weapons stood by to do anything required to repel an American attack.

The Roadrunner Cafe
by Jamie Zerndt

One year after his father's suicide, Carson Long feels cheated. He hates his father for leaving him and his sister, Georgie, alone. He hates him for turning his mother into a young widow who hasn't left the house in months. And he hates his father for leaving behind his stupid tree. Four of them are planted outside the restaurant, one for each family member. That is until Carson's mother, no longer able to stand the sight of the tree, hires a local landscaper to remove it in the middle of the night. This seemingly unremarkable act soon sets in motion of series of events in the small Colorado ski town that leaves more than just young Carson groping in the dark for answers. The Roadrunner Café is a unique novel told from multiple points of view about loss and the lengths some will go to heal the human heart. Ultimately, it is a story about what it takes to go on living even when everything in the world might be telling us it isn't possible to.

Religious
Adventures with the Amish (FUN Midwest History)
by Julie McDonald

I have always been fascinated with the simple lifestyle and culture of the Amish. My love of gardening, farm animals and community only added to my near obsession with them. This is the improbable, but true, story of how I, a Flagstaff, Arizona native, where there is not a single Amish person, have made many Amish friends in states across the Midwest. I have spent time visiting in their homes, and gardens, even staying overnight. I have enjoyed the most wonderful home cooked food imaginable and been the recipient of many home made goodies! You will find the book interesting, educational and respectful of the Amish. The book will answer many questions you may have about the Amish. At the same, you will enjoy the humor, ( I hope) and be thoroughly entertained as I poke fun of myself.
