And if it has more than a passing resemblance to a rodent, that's because Louisiana's newest culinary treat is a rodent. More commonly known as the nutria, this rodent-*** -dinner is sometimes referred to as the swamp rat.

"I would probably have to liken the taste to wild rabbit," said Robert Walker, of the Louisiana Seafood Exchange. "Once people try it, they realize it's not an offensive-tasting product, just because it's rodent-like in nature

Well.....they had to do something with them. Have you seen the damage these things can do to waterways? Is eating them more PC than just using them for target practice?

granny, I would think it was somewhat more PC. After, if it is sitting on your plate, it's more likely than not it is actually dead, than just maimed.

I think it is AdventureFoods that sells canned possum, with an accompanying tongue-in-cheek about how the roadkill was acquired. I gave a number away as y2k XMAS gifts to my yuppie friends.

Always thought of rat as white meat.

Manbeef, cute, very cute.

However, it is incorrect. ManPORK would be more proper.

Longpig anyone?

Pretty simple really the nutria are wiping out the swamp and they are losing 100,000 acres a year. Because of the anti-fur people no one is trapping them. So they have to devolpe a new market otherwise they are going to lose 1/3 of the state.

Nutria is a very nice fur. I have a coat made out of it, and it is very warm, durable and long-lasting.

Nutria are also non-native destructive pests. If some good can come out of getting rid of them, it's a good thing.
