Flowers Flower buds on the Geraniums!

The geraniums brought up from the basement in January have been leafing out and today the first bract of flowers is showing color. These pots are an important part of my modest flower display near the outside door, so I am happy they are coming along. So happy to see my old friends here inside by the sunny window. they won't go utside yet for a couple of months.
In addition to being easy to grow, year after year, they are thrifty for my fixed income pocketbook.

That's such a heartwarming sight that Spring is here! Those who live where things bloom year round have no idea how much those of us in the frozen north look forward to our fleeting flowers.

I have some of my late MILs geraniums in a north window. Two of them fill a 6 foot window (I keep telling DH I need to prune them, but he says, no)

I've not tried geraniums yet. Do you just over-winter them inside? Our daffodils bloomed Thursday, then last night we got 3" of snow and temps dropped to 14 degrees overnight. All next week it'll be in the 60's.

I put the geraniums, pot, soil, and all in the basement round about the end of October, and only water them about once a month. in February they are hauled up into the warmth and put in a sunny window, watered, and pruned back. Once it past all frost, out they go to bloom all summer, then back inside as the temps drop into the 40's and 30's to bloom on the tables near sunny windows for a couple of months. Geraniums are actually perennials in subtropical areas and can be grown outside there as bushes. (I remember them framing doorways in gardens as a child in Palermo, Scicily)
