The above photo reminds me of something that happened years ago with my dog, when we were taking very long (for me) walks around the larger neighborhood.

Now this dog has the biggest prey drive of any dog that we have owned; no critter is too small or too large but that he will (or used to) view it as potential prey (or maybe a threat?). When deer got into our yard (we were having issues with fencing) he'd go berserk. (We had a couple close calls with fawns that had gotten separated from mom, and we basically had to interpose ourselves between our dog and the fawn in order to protect it.)

So... one walk, I decided to expand a little bit into a neighbor that we hadn't been in before, in order to get off a busy road (which had no sidewalks, and which had heavier traffic than usual that day). As we came up to an intersection where I was going to turn, there was a smallish bronzy statue of a deer in the front yard of one of the corner houses. My dog saw it and went nuts, yanked the leash out of my hand, and headed straight for that statue. Of course the statue stood still, which confused him, so he circled around to the back of it and sniffed (the usual spot for sniffing), and then decided that it wasn't what he thought it was.

If you caught the opposite sex doing this to you, you might call the police. When a dog does this, it’s a sign they are relaxed, happy and mellow. This is usually their expression after getting the attention they crave!
