Fave thing to nip bronchitis? (And, question about bronchitis)

Hi. Wondering if anyone has a specific thing to recommend that helps to keep a respiratory infection (first sore throat, then stuffy nose) from dropping down into the bronchial tubes and causing bronchitis? Either alternative or conventional meds, or anything else. (I'm trying some mineral ascorbate vitamin C drinks and have tried a bit of elderberry extract too.)

Also, any views on why some respiratory infections become bronchitis? Is it the 'shields not up enough' of the person, or specific viruses/bacteria? (Or a bit of both or something else?)

Thanks!

Bronchitis is chronic or a secondary infection

I've never had any luck beating bronchitis without an antibiotic. I've tried everything....and it always morphs into pneumonia eventually if I don't grab some amoxicillin quickly.

People with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) have "chronic bronchitis." Their lungs are full of thick, sticky mucus. The stuff is like glue and you can't cough it out. Keeps you clogged up.

If somebody has suggestions, I'd welcome a few.

Hot Buttered Rum helps with the cough. :D

Does amoxicillin usually do it for you? (I know these things can be either bacterial or viral.. or.. I guess myco.) I've been through a -mycin round of antibiotics - two actually - in prior bronchitis cases, to no real notable avail. Never had chronic bronchitis - except that after the first round of acute bronchitis that just ended, another 'cold' caught is now trying to drop down in there.

Dh *always* gets bronchitis when he gets a cold. Doc told him to use an albuterol inhaler when he first gets a cold...and it worked! No bronchitis! Then he ran out and didn't refill the prescription. Sure enough, after coughing for a couple of months, back to the doc he goes. He's now on the inhaler, Zithromax (antibiotic) and codeine cough syrup and finally getting better.

Might be worth a try.

Thanks. I take it albuterol inhalers are by-prescription? (These open the airways basically, from what a Google search says.)

'Fraid so. They are usually used for asthma I think. I have wondered if the Primatene Mist stuff sold in the stores would work, but we haven't tried it yet.

Had the cough from hell last winter, tried every OTC syrup--no help. Finaly rubbed tea tree oil in my nose, under my lip, inhaled fumes deeply--next day cough was -gone-!

Definitely worth trying....I'm prone to pneumonia too.

I had recurring bronchitis that sometimes became pneumonia - after a certain point I needed antibiotics or I wasn't going to get well. It was miserable.

Only alternative I found to cure that is Dr. Christopher's Anti-Plague Formula. The flavor is incomparably nasty, but it works on respiratory problems and influenza. Amazingly nasty stuff.

Some health food places carry A-P Formiula and you can get in online at http://www.herbshopconnection.com/

Herballegacy.com used to have the recipe for it, too. It's a bit complicated, but cheaper than buying the premade stuff.
