Went for a walk this morning and even though it was cool, things were still green and reasonably full. Seems a bit odd for this late in the season. No sign of Fall, really. Then five minutes after seeing this thread, I heard geese flying south overhead.

its not how warm it gets - it the amount of sunshine.

day before yesterday, there were two oak leaves on the ground. yesterday, there were five.
day before yesterday, there were no acorns on the ground. yesterday, there was a sprinkling of little green acorns.

When it changes, it is going to change fast.
High Monday is supposed to be 100.
High Friday is supposed to be 84.

Equinox is Thursday

Heat Ridge to Bring Back Summer to the U.S. | Firsthand Weather

Heat Ridge to Bring Back Summer to the U.S.

I think most of us are ready for fall to come and stay for a little while. But if you're in the central and eastern U.S. and thought the summer was behind us, I have some unfortunate news.
The remnants of Typhoon Merbok, a tropical cyclone that developed in the western North Pacific, have already been interacting with the Pacific jet stream. Believe it or not, recurving typhoons can have a profound effect on the downstream weather for a week or more after the event occurs. In this particular case, Merbok entered a region of the jet favorable for its intensification and is currently producing over 50-foot waves in the Bering Sea.
This interaction will cause the jet stream to do what you'd expect a hose to do if you were to grab the end of it and start quickly moving your arm up and down. Notice how much wavier the jet stream will be this upcoming Tuesday compared to this past Tuesday. A wavier jet stream can equate to more extreme weather, on the cold and hot end of the spectrum.

Propane tanks are filled and fire wood piled high.

Still getting cherry tomatoes, two types of bell peppers and some sweet small mini peppers. Plus our Cayenne plant is still producing.

We need rain!

Our temps for the next days mirror the OPs. However we are ready for the cold weather, wood and propane all topped off.

It was 43 here in NH this morning. Chilly!
Yep... we saw 45 and 43.. yesterday our high didn't even reach 60. Harvested another 2 bushels of tomatoes... I have to count the bags in the freezer, but hubby says we're running out of room, so I think there's probavly 6 bushels frozen so far. We freeze them as they ripen, then take a day and run them all through the Squeezo and start the sauce and soup, canning production

I also got a full bushel of ripe red sweet peppers... there's probably another bushel of ripe orange ones I'll pick once I get the red ones dehydrated. We've got a gorgeous week forecast (but they're always wrong!), so we're trying to take advantage of it and get the harvest in.

This Typhoon Merbok should be watched. Its been said that it is the biggest for Alaska in 70 years.
The last line of the above "can equate to more extreme weather, on the cold and hot end of the spectrum."

I expect it will push cold air further south earlier and will suck warmer air up from the Gulf behind it.

And here I am hoping to make it two more weeks before freezing temperatures try to wipe out the tender veggies.
Not me. My tomato plants were a bust this year. First no rain and then days of 5-inch rainstorms and for the last three weeks, no rain. I pulled up the cherry tomatoes. They came on with such vengeance, I couldn't keep up! Then I tasted one and NOTHING! Just yanked the plant so I wouldn't have such a cleanup. The regular tomatoes are just about ripening and then the idiot squirrels are getting them! I've found them all over the yard, barely ripe and half eaten! Most people around here have already yanked theirs up.

Next year I'm just buying from the Amish!

We had a refreshing taste of fall last week. Tomorrow starts a heat wave here. Wednesday, the high is supposed to be 101 degrees, and that's not including the heat index. It's going to burn up my turnips and mustard. It's not supposed to be this hot in September here. The old oaks on our property are already dropping their leaves.

I saw some pics on FB, western Alaska is getting hammered.

Already pulled up the grape tomatoes. Didn't get a thing off them. My romas are flowering again, but I expect nothing. My banana peppers are doing awesome.

It's going to be 99f high all week. I will not be surprised if the temps crash hard after this.

using the warm weather to run the pressure washer to finish off the season - put down some grass seed with the hot sun to crack that open in a few days - putting away all the crap ahead of the snow coming in soon - seen plenty of hot Septembers with Octoberfest snow .....

High forecast today, 95 with heat index of 101. Tomorrow, high of 100 with heat index of 105. Our local weatherman says we'll be breaking records all week. We've also entered another drought period, too.

Spoke too soon, I suppose. It's been cool and rainy for days it seems.
Got the patio door open because it's sunny. But it's cool.
Actually broke out the parabolic heater this afternoon.
Leaves may be yellowing a bit, none came off in the recent rain and wind.
