Email Fake USPS 'Delivery Failure Notification' Email!

Just found this in my email inbox.....looked screwy as hell so didn't fall for it.

Item bore 'USPS' logo in the body, but the header at the top said 'Mail Inter-
national' and gave an email address. Didn't look right plus all parcels I have
ordered were already accounted for....didn't have anything 'international'
coming in.

Message stated: "Our courier couldn't make delivery to you on 27 April.
Print label and show at *nearest* post office."

Had a link at bottom to "Print *shipping* label". :hmm:

Did a Google search and found this:

http://www.scamtrends.com/usps-delivery-failure-notification/#sthash.dfs8skUx.dpbs

"This fake USPS email tries to get you to download and open an attachment. Under no circumstances
should you do so. Flag the message as spam and delete it right away. In other variations of this scam you
might be prompted to click on a link, again simply flag as spam and delete the message. If you clicked on
any links or downloaded/opened the attachment you should scan for viruses and other threats as soon
as you can. Did you receive this scam?"

Samples of the suspect email at link above.

Had I clicked on the 'print shipping label' link....I might well have infected my 'puter
with a virus!

Watch out for this one, guys!

I got one of these last week! It didn't have any official logos in the email and looked fishy to me too, so I deleted it. Thanks for the info!

The biggest question is how did the Post Office get your email address??? I've seen those emails too and know they are fake as the P.O doesn't have my email, or UPS, or FEDex...so many scams out there now-a-days...

Surprised but also somehow reassured to see this thread. I had ordered some items from Amazon and got 2 emails like the ones mentioned in the OP.

I thought it seemed funny, because when I went to Amazon and checked my original order, the shipping information there indicated that the order was going through the usual delivery steps.

So, I guess it's a scam. Now my question is How did someone learn about the order and fabricate this false information and why would they want to do it?

Is it just some kind of nuisance prank? There didn't seem to be any way they could have profited from doing it.

Anyway, thank you for posting the OP. It is reassuring to know that this sort of thing is a scam/prank and can be ignored.

I had two family members this week forward me their emails asking me if this is for real. They know I keep up with this (and I know my computer is pretty much protected with addons and anti-virus if I just open their email and don't click on anything). Sometimes though I can tell from the subject I don't even need to open the email, which is preferable of course. It must really be getting around.
