Facebook Phishing thing going on

I got some total stranger wanting to be my "friend" and then a few hours later got several emails saying I had reset my facebook password and here was the new password. I did NOT follow the "handy" link supplied in the emails (the "new" pswds were all the same, by the way) and went to facebook and lo and behold, my regular password for it worked fine. I don't get it, WHY would somebody want to get in there?

I don't get it, WHY would somebody want to get in there?

I doubt that they necessarily wanted to get into your FB account but since a lot of people use the same password for everything if they get one password from someone they not only know a password from that person but they confirm they have a live e-mail address. From there they can try to access first the e-mail with that password and then if that works, bank accounts and so on.

I'm having a heck of a time with FB tonight. Keeps disconnecting and giving a "technical error" reply along with a broken link "oops".
