Sewing Elastic

Am I the only person that has to have someone try on anything with elastic before I finish it off? Because no matter what the measurement or the quality of the elastic, I always end up taking off more.

While on the topic of elastic, anyone know of a good online source for non roll elastic? I mis-cut a waistband and need to order a different size than what I have on hand. And I haven't had much luck ordering elastic online. But... the patchwork tiered skirt is stitched and waiting for the waistband. Looks like it will fall perfectly when that is done.

I'm trying to avoid the insane Joann shipping fee. But may just have to give in. The local store is out and only has some of the most oddball types of elastic.
I got a chance to go in our local one Friday. I was really surprised by things. Lots of some things. But really slim on craft type stuff.

See if they have ship to store. I think our local Walmart has it in their notions section as well. Can’t hurt to see if the have it online.

I would have thought that they would but so far, not at this store. I don't know why. But I did see that WalMart had Dritz. And a 10 yard roll is on sale for a really good price. Important question though, are there other good brands besides Dritz. With the shortages going on, it would be good to have that knowledge in advance. Or guidelines on how to look at a brand and see if it is, on paper, similar or better than Dritz?

Joann’s has closed some thirty stores in my part of the Midwest.... good with online orders.

Yeah. They had to trim the stores and improve the numbers before they went public. Unfortunately that meant closing stores. I dread them doing that here because some of the materials my son loves are only available through them. And Hobby Lobby/Micheals/WalMart just don't have the same selections of sewing supplies. But our store seems to be decently busy, even if it's just pickup orders. I just need to be able to touch a fabric to decide if it's going to work for a project. That's how I learned and I have no clue how to transfer that to looking at images and information on a screen. And frequently, touch is the final deciding factor. I used several different micro fleeces for my son before Joann's came out with one that is just sink into it soft. Now if Disney would just do some of it's prints on that fleece, in purple, his world would be perfect.

Walmart has a good selection of sewing findings. I recently bought some large snaps there after I could not find them at Hobby Lobby. Also, I wanted one of the little triangle irons for quick pressing while piecing quilts and found one at Walmart. Hobby Lobby did not have any. I've also bought non-roll elastic at Walmart, but not sure of the sizes available.

Yes, I was just going to suggest Walmart. Sewing is going on for prom season, so lots of notions are in stock, plus plenty of elastic in sizes I haven't seen for awhile.

I'm in the process of cutting down some of my worn pants and making them into shorts with elastic waistbands.

Have you tried Wawak? I haven’t bought elastic from them, I rarely use it, but everything else I’ve purchased has been good.
Elastic & Waistbands
The problem is that I need to handle it to test it. Although maybe they can send a sample. I know a company did that during COVID. And I'm so grateful they did because it failed in multiple ways. The worst of which was that the color was just painted on. That was meant for straight elastic waistbands that are visible. So the color splitting was a big deal.
