Want the 'ancient' links that say ebola *is* airborne? Read again the book, "The Hot Zone".
We read the Hot Zone together right after our Honey Moon, that variation of Ebola was airborne (in the medical sense) but only (thank goodness) among the monkeys in the lab. However some workers tested POSITIVE for ANTIBODIES meaning that it was close enough to being able to infect humans that it did provoke an immune response.
Quiet word on the street (and talked about quietly in medical schools) is that the current HUMAN variation isn't airborne in a medical sense; that means you don't walk into a room half an hour after someone with the disease has breathed the air and have the potential for becoming ill (the monkeys were infected in "closed" rooms via air conditioning if I recall correctly).
This means that the Powers that Be can CLAIM it "isn't airborne," however it looks very much like it may have mutated into a different medical State (Nightwolf gave me the term, I've used it before but I can't remember it right now) which the public (and any lay person) would think of as airborne.
This would be that the "droplets" expelled when a person with Ebola sneezes, vomits or goes to the bathroom; may travel in the air to others; in the past, these items had to actually be touched (sounds gross but of course happens all the time, married people and parents often clean up after a sick spouse or child - Westerners use gloves, most Africans don't have that choice).
Now, it probably is not required to actually touch the bodily fluid (at least in some cases) but simply be near the person or perhaps even in the same area as the event a few minutes later (the virus seems to die quickly but not as fast as it used to).
If Human Ebola (any of the strains) was to go fully and medically airborne (the great terror of modern medicine) then there would simply be no stopping it except perhaps the vaccines if they work (no matter the side effects); it will simply burn through the population like the Black Death and potentially kill 1/3 to 1/2 or more of the infected population and like the Black Death, many people will die who DON'T have the disease because there will be no one to care for those with other conditions.
Let us hope and prey that does not happen, things are bad enough already - Nightwolf calls Ebola "a Wake-up Call" to start taking epidemic diseases seriously (and basic health care for everyone, at last at the most basic levels) which if ignored, will have its own price to pay with Ebola or some other new or mutated disease.
