Earache!!!

I thought that I was queen of home remedies, but my ear is killing me and I can't get it to stop.

I've already tried peroxide, alcohol, hair dryer, olive oil, heating pad, etc.
Anybody got something new?

My jaw keeps popping, so I don't know if something is out of alignment or if something fuzzy has found a home in there. Gross! (I think that I read of a spider making a home in someone's ear once) It's sore all around my ear and down my jaw alittle. If I tug on my earlobe it's excruciating!

You can try this. Get a garlic clove and squeeze out several drops on a bit of cotton. Put this in the ear and go to sleep. This remedy has helped many earaches. You can also take the oil out of garlic softgels and apply to the cotton too.

I would also take colloidal silver at least three times a day for the next few days.

One remedy is made from flowers of Mullein plants. It involves picking the little yellow flowers and covering them with olive oil then sitting in the sun for a few weeks before straining. Since you said you know about herbs I posted this in the hopes that you might already have some and had maybe forgotten about it. I have tried this and it does work. Try moist heat compress and then massage behind your jaw. It sometimes helps open things up. I truly feel sorry for anyone with an earache!! Feel better soon!! Kathy

Sounds like you may have a middle/inner ear infection in which case not much you put IN the ear will help get rid of infection that is deep inside. Outside stuff doesn't get that deep in the ear - stopped by the tympanic membrane.

Everytime we start to get an earache we head for the Collodial Silver and put a couple of drops inside the ear, and it has worked every time. Have used it on the grandkids, and works for them also!! But it sounds like you may have it a little too deep for the drops to reach, but you can swallow it about 3 times a day which may help.

Hope you are better soon.

Thanks everyone!

I had a horrible night last night. Throbbing and a full of water feeling and lots of pain. Today, still feeling full/blocked, but less pain. I have mullein leaves still, but no flowers.

I'll take the CS and see what happens.

Rugmaker,

I hope you feel better soon!

You may want to go to a doctor, ASAP, because if it's an inner ear infection, it could rupture the eardrum or else spread further internally.

I ended up with a real humdinger about 2 years ago - was very painful! Ended up having to take Cipro eardrops to help clear it up.

Sending out prayers that you'll be well soon...

Rugmaker,

You might try fenugreek. A couple of capsules 3 or 4 times a day should help thin out the mucose enough to drain the ear. I know it helps with sinus problems. Worth a try in any case.

Thanks guys!

Yep, I believe it's in the inner ear now. I am absolutely horrible at treating myself.
I seem to forget everything that I ever knew.

Still looking for my colodial silver, but did use ear candle and got a bunch of wax out. No longer putting anything in my ear, trying to get it to dry out. Taking ibuprophen for the swelling and pain and Vitamin C(per husband instructions). Nothing seems to be handy in my house, so can't seem to find anything! If doesn't get better tomorrow, I'll just go and get it looked at.

I never get earaches, so it's really strange how I got this. I did clean my ear with a Qtip the other day, maybe I pushed something in there.

I have been having so much on my mind lately and I thought maybe my worries during sleep were making me grind my teeth and clinch my jaw, which maybe would have affected the ear. The more I try to help it, the worse it gets.

What other natural antibiotics are good? I'll see if I can find something else.
I'll be glad when my husband gets back home, I think I need to be babied.

been there

If your earache is worse at night, and when you lay down, you may have an abscess tooth. I went thew this for a long time ,and tried several remedies. When I went to the dentist , he found an abscess. I was then asked ,if I had earaches at night. Had I have had a clue, I would have went to the dentist long before I did. I did have the pain in the day time also, but always at night.

Putting a drop of swimmers' ear drops in well ears once a month helps sanitize the ears and I have found wards off ear infections. For children who get water in their ears while showering, I have found that a drop in each well ear every week or two really helps keep down on the ear trouble.

A few drops of a mixture of alcohol, water and white vinegar placed in each ear following shower helps to maintain healthy ears. It's also recommended to prevent swimmer's ear.

What is an ear candle?

Please don't mess around with an ear infection, or absess for that matter. I had an Audiologist Professor die when I was in college from an ear infection.
