Grnhouse DIY Cheap Winter Greenhouse Heating | Solar/Jean Pain Experiment | Over Two Months Running

Old Gray Mare

Found this interesting. He uses very cheap, simple and sustainable systems to heat a small greenhouse in winter. Decomposing wood chips/compost covered with a tarp provides heat. A small solar panel supplies power.

How it works: A small fan circulates air that gets heated in what looks like heating duct tubing buried in the compost heap. A small water pump circulates water heated in a similar fashion. These are on timers to make most efficient use of available sunlight and power. There is a motion activated light.

What surprises me is the relatively small size of the compost heap. I could imagine this being scaled up. My only concern would be a potential build up of natural gas?

Fair use.
