Some history and details:
The story is based directly on a pen-and-paper RPG by the same name that I created back in 1986. As RPGs go it's huge, with 1.6 million square miles of mapped land area. When I drew the maps out at 1 inch=400 mile scale, it took two pieces of posterboard to hold it.
The game itself is playable, and has been played already by two different teams. Neither got too exceedingly far, as the game has about a thousand hours of content in it, so the team that got the farthest took a couple months to do it and only got maybe 10% into it.
I keep the game's details in three thick binders, which include the formulae for the world's physics and various calculations for RPG fare like saving rolls. It's all straight-up old-school RPG goodness, with a mechanics system similar enough to first-edition AD&D that RPGers can jump in instantly - I'm sure RPGers at TB will notice various aspects of RPGs in the story as it plays out. Eventually I'd love to make a MMORPG for computers out of it, as it'd easily dwarf every existing MMO in both playable area and content. One day, I shall achieve that goal.
The story itself is one I've been pondering for the better part of a decade. In my mind's eye I see the entire thing from the first chapter to the finale, but it takes time to write all that down and check to ensure its continuity. As such it'll be posted quickly at first (as I post what I have already written) and then slowly (as I create new chapters).
I expect to have some crazy long lists of people/places/ythings by the time this is all over.
