Did Microsoft just appropriate part of YOUR computer? CHECK FOR appearance ofA "DRIVE Q"

ainitfunny

Saved, to glorify God.
My NEW computer suddenly got so slow I had to wait 1-3 seconds to see the letter I just typed. I discovered the sudden appearance of a "Drive Q".

The "new drive" would not tell me who owned it, would not allow me to assign ownership to me or the administrator, would not allow me to view, change any settings or otherwise "tamper" with whatever someone remotely put on my new computer.

I researched the question on the internet and word has it that it is hidden in microsoft updates to Microsoft OFFICE (which I did NOT buy) but my version put a hidden back door by means of a "Microsoft office starter" which does nothing (but let them INTO my computer) into my windows 7 OS, apparently.

Well, I went into my controls and UNINSTALLED ALL "MICROSOFT OFFICE" PROGRAMS (THERE WERE 3) and suddenly "DRIVE Q" DISAPPEARED and I regained control of my computer again and now when I type a letter it appears immediately on my screen!

What makes you think it's Microsoft doing it? Sounds to me you are the victim of a Trojan Horse. Get some good antivirus software and run it.

Be interesting to find out what you turn up anit, about 10 minutes after the EAS my computer started making odd noises like the hard drive was working and busy (it's never done that before but my old desktop did when Microsoft was accessing it while it was turned off years ago). The activitiy light was blinking in rapid fashion as the noise was going on. At the time I didn't have internet though there are 2 encrypted wifi signals my computer can pick up when mine's not on. I had pulled the battery from my phone so I knew it had to be my 'puter, I was listening to a downloaded program when it started making the noises, it's never made those noises when I listened to it before and I have no background programs running.

Take it for what it's worth, but I assumed it was Microsoft accessing my computer via wifi's I had no access to.

It's Office 2010-related. I know this 100%.

It seems, based on my experience, that this "Drive Q"
is only present when it is:

A) Pre-installed on a new computer
B) Office 2010 Home and Student Edition

Uninstall it and the drive should disappear.

I have Office 2010 Pro Plus, and no drive Q.

You'll find the answer to your worries here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2257628
Or, more general, their "Click-To-Run" software, here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982434

So yeah, Microsoft isn't doing anything underhanded.

and I regained control of my computer again

That's a little misleading. You never "lost" control of your computer. If your hard drive is grinding, you probably don't have enough memory, or you're loading a program that isn't fully installed or hasn't been used in a while. It's how the memory management works with Microsoft.
